Headed to Vegas this weekend for a conference, didn’t want to carry my a7iii and 28-75. Didn’t want to invest in an a6400 setup since it’ll be a 3 day trip. Ricoh GRIII wouldn’t be released by then. Stuck with what to do.

So instead picked up a Ricoh GRII. Had the original GR on three occasions, each time questioning why I sold it in the first place. Realized I never had the II, mostly because it didn’t improve much over the original. But since the original GR is discontinued, the GRIII isn’t released yet and it’s $900, the II for $496 seemed like a no brainer, especially since I can toss it in my backpack, carry it around in a pocket, and when I come back I can hand it down to my 6 yr old who is starting to take up an interest in photography.

how comfortable are you able to work with drone photos? you're getting similar IQ with the rx100, and I find it difficult to work with, but I guess not impossible. I'de explore options before going to a rx100, even aps-c lenses on the r3 before going to the rx100 series. something like the 16-50 pancake is really small and fairly inexpensive. fairly confident it will give much better IQ than the rx100 series, and has a similar FOV. if that's too heavy, then A6400 would save you 200 grams or so :p

neither are in the league of the rx100 in size. Just gotta consider the IQ. If the kids arent going, I'de bring the 24-105 for sure

Thanks Charlie, food for thought. Kids defo not going! Wife not going either, just me and a climbing buddy

This is made of 5 different images, each one was to light a different part of the shoe with my AD200 and one for the background to remove the stand it was on.

My son is currently working on a school project on the Philippine Eagle. By "currently working on," I mean that it's due in two weeks and he's been procrastinating for the last month. I'll have to show him this vid when he gets home from school today and hope that it spurs him along. :-P

nice. The City where I grow up in the Philippines is home to where the Philippine Eagle Sanctuary is. I will surely visit them this June. I hope I have longer lenses.

Nice little surprise when I got home there, my iPad Pro had arrived but I realised they had mis-advertised it. It’s actually the 1TB cellular model but was listed as WiFi model. The thing doesn’t look like it’s ever been used! I used a website to check the serial and IMEI numbers and it’s all clear and was only registered in January so still loads of warranty left. Result!!

If the cellular model is better than the WiFi, then Woo Hoo! :-D

:-) yeah it allows me to add a sim with a data plan and use my iPad out with WiFi areas. Those models are more expensive to buy compared to the WiFi version so good surprise

Edit - checked apple website

iPad Pro 11” 1TB WiFi £1519
iPad Pro 11” 1TB cellular £1699

I paid £850 thinking I was getting wifi and received cellular. I guess the eBay shop didn’t really know what they had as iPads don’t seem to be their main thing to sell.

This after 4 days in a canoe and 2 hours of walking and me with a temperature of 103F....in hot jungle :(
The talons are 4+ inches long to give you an idea size of the bierd. Sadly after all that time finding one
all he did was sit and scratch :)

Of all the birds of Prey the Harpy Eagle is the most impressive of all the raptor in my view. I saw a National Geo special recently on Harpy's and people who study them I can't imagine going into a Harpy nest to band fledglings with a female Harpy haggin around.

IPad with cellular is the way to go! I bought a used 10.5” with keyboard, pencil and a silicone cover for the pencil for $601 on eBay and it is a great way to edit photos on the road. It really changes things for the better.

I ordered a pencil which came today too, trying to get used to that at the moment. Haven’t decided on the Smart Keyboard case yet though

Wow, congrats on the big iPad Pro score! That’s awesome.

I wasn’t loving Apple’s case design, so I ordered this one: https://www.amazon.com …tle_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (external link)

Already had a separate bluetooth keyboard, but so far I’ve not even used a keyboard with mine yet. Might use a keyboard when PS is released for the Pro if it supports keyboard shortcuts.

Currently trying to decide what screen protector to get.

Well this has been a good day so far: the CV 40mm and Loxia 85mm both came today.

I spent yesterday wishing I already had the Loxia 85 as its much slimmer diameter makes it a much more comfortable fit in my 5L bag than cramming in the fatter Batis 85.

Looks like an interesting case. I’m thinking the keyboard one for myself as I am considering using my iPad for work too. Not 100% on that yet though but the pencil and handwritten notes is a big appeal.

With regards to screen protectors I saw one that made writing with the pencil feel like paper but any find it online now!
