Thank you :D I have been trying to get a shot I like for ages. This is actually on my bed with some fairy lights on my gf's side table.

Roger Cicala and the FE 135/1.8GM.

Are you portrait people salivating/pre-ordering.

I wish I had any reason to consider one since the review from Cicala
was just over the top outstanding......me wondering if he ever tested
the Otus.

Well I guess many lenses are now old school compared to the GM technology.
I know, having owned many many super zooms like the Sigma and Tamron 150-600s
and the EOS 100-400ii that the Sony FE100-400GM is the best zoom lens ever made.

I'm not. Optics look great, but blistering sharpness are not the priority for portrait lenses.

I'm sure it will tick the other boxes in terms of rendering and bokeh quality, but 135mm is not my preferred focal length for portraits...lesson I've learned from owning 135mm lenses several times. They tend to stay in the bag as I favor 85mm. 135mm and 85mm are also so close that you end up picking one or the other...sort of like keeping both a 35mm and 50mm in the bag.

Bigger priority for me is a 70-200 zoom....something that can give me 200mm for posed portraiture, and event use. I'm looking into the new sigma 70-200, but AF needs to be there. Also seeing what tamron has in store.

Sony lenses in general are often shockingly good. I’m currently trying to learn Affinity Photo on the iPad using one of my FE 12-24mm images and I’m in awe of the sharpness (compared to Canon 11-24 or Nikkon 14-24). Incredible. I hadn’t planned to sell my CV 12, but it’s kind of hard to justify keeping it just for some cool sunstars (still got plenty of sunstar greatness with my Loxias).

BTW, hopefully it’s learning pains, but Affinity Photo is looking awful. Hurry up Adobe!

As an FYI, Capture One Pro 12 for Sony is on sale for 50% off ($109) through the end of the month or so. I was kinda bummed that I didn't jump on v11 when it was 80 bucks, but this is even better. If you haven't played with it, it might be worth looking at some of the tutorial videos that they have online. In particular, their layers are pretty nice and the addition of luma-masking is pretty awesome.

I had a 67mm CPL and a 3-stop ND on a 52mm step up ring in my car...and naturally I proceeded to this cascade without those filters. vmad Not quite as bad as last week, where I took a trip to Pine Mountain and found the place gorgeously immersed in a light fog and then realized my camera was back on the kitchen table. Anyway, all I had to work with here is the 52mm CPL I keep on the lens by default, ISO 50, and stopping down to f/16. Diffraction really takes a bite out of the image at f/16, but it still came off reasonably sharp.

I also have a vertical shot of this cascade, which better isolates the water, but here I also liked that the light itself seems to cascade down to meet the stream.

I just received a 70-200GM as a rental for a dance competition I got hired to shoot tomorrow.

It seems smaller than I expected. I always felt like my Canon 70-200 was a big and heavy lens and I don't get that same feeling and it actually balances better than I expected. Slightly too large for the body (in my opinion) but doesn't feel much different than my 90 Macro in real world use. My tests look good so far and I'm looking forward to trying it out.

Lovely scene :-) I had similar exposure issues last week in Wales. I ended up taking a scene 'exposure' and then a water 'exposure'. I've yet to blend one so far though :p

Selling all my other lenses...finally found the one I love... :p

Just kidding, but I have enjoyed my brief experiences with the CV 40mm.

Nothing unique about the rendering in this one, but here are some neat lines from tonight's walk in the woods (CV 40mm):

that little 40mm is interesting...if I didn't have the lust and need for the 135 GM...I would probably be focused on that one.

Great to see you out shooting and mulling over your gear again David.

Another from my little stroll around Savannah...what I found myself doing, was rather than looking for things happening, I looked for interesting light and then waited there for something to happen...let it come to me...this guy in his St. Patricks Day Jacket with the little girl was perfect...in my head I was hearing the Pink Floyd opening for Goodbye Blue Sky..."Look mummy, there's an aeroplane up in the sky" ...except that daddy was there...
