Nah, he's a cat and cat's are not easily impressed. He's probably like, "Oh, so you've got a brand new 1DX MKII, big deal, Ho Hum!!!!" LOL

Nice shot.

The repeat until bored around the if clause was kind of implied.

This picture of Kajsa is actually in the wrong thread, since it's taken before I destroyed the 1DX, and thus acquired a 1DX Mark II to replace it with. But at least it's taken with the 1DX, and it's very relevant to the last discussion.
The 1DX has since then been repaired, so now I'm running both of them in parallel.

It's been a few since I went from my 5D4 to the 1DX2, and after a good number of outings for birds, and some paid work, I'm still extremely happy with this camera. What I'm finding really interesting is the exposure accuracy when compared to my mirrorless EOS R: with the R, you're almost 100% guaranteed to hit the exposure due to the WYSIWYG viewfinder... the 1DX2 gets it right too, unless I'm being daft and exposing on a white sky or deep shadow. Sucks that Canon has kept spot metering on the AF point locked into the 1-series, because it's such a clutch feature vmad

So far, no oil spatter on my sensor *fingers crossed*

Also, the 1DX2 is just bonkers at high ISO noise control.

Ah-keong...No one knows but Canon. They are very careful about leaking release dates of any new camera bodies. Your guess is as good as anyone's. I'd sure like to know when the 1DXiii will be released. Like you, I'm saving and waiting. I may even switch over to the Sony a9.

Looking historically over the past few 1 series releases, Canon has aligned them with the Olympic Games. So it would follow that 2020 will see the next incarnation. Now as to what that will be we can only guess, but I am tipping given said 2020 Olympics are in Japan then Canon will want this release to be memorable (and for all the right reasons).

Why care if it's superseded?
I bought a 1D2n after the 1D3 was released. At the time the 1D3 was in limited supply.
The 1D2n which had been $5000 was offered with $750 cash back. The 1D3 was $5800 but would require going on a waiting list.
The 1D2n was proven. As it turned out, there were many unhappy early adopters of the 1D3.
Remove the AF problems of the 1D3 from the equation and I still had no regrets.
Years later I bought a used 1D4 knowing the 1DX would be available in a few months. No regrets with that either.

So I suppose I actually do care a lot if a body is or will be superseded soon as I get a well tested body, I don't get any nasty surprises that early adopters can experience and the price is significantly lower.

1D3 to 1D4 was one of the bigger leaps in performance and features in Canon 1 Series DSLR history. For the rest, a regular upgrade every 2nd model release is what many users choose over upgrading to every new model for not just economics but also an 'if it aint broke don't fix it' philosophy.

Opps, sorry for the misunderstanding.
By superseded, I actually meant "out of stock" or "sold out".

Well I'm back in the 1dx2 camp again having traded my 5D4 in over the weekend.
I'd forgotten what an astonishingly good camera it is.

Ump and I don't always agree about things but, in another thread he too concluded the 1dx2 is as close to a "One Camera Does All" solution as it gets.

I have really missed the insanely clean high iso abilities.

You should get plenty of warning. A replacement has to be announced, then actually released.

The 1DX came very close to the Olympic games in 2012. The 1DX Mark II had more margin. They probably had issues with the 1DX, which postponed it somewhat.

It'd have to be a super compelling upgraded set of features to get me to part with this 1DX2. I'm of the opinion that there isn't anything more that Canon can do with the DSLR, aside from some small bumps in resolution/DR/ISO noise control/AF precision, none of which will really improve my photography enough to warrant the upgrade. My next upgrade will be to a full-featured, refined mirrorless 5 or 1-series, and I don't see that happening for a few years. Until then, I'll continue to enjoy this outstanding 1DX2.
