I finally got a new neon "Open" sign for my home bar. I broke my first one a couple of years ago and only found one I like to replace it recently.

I recently returned from a trip to Santa Fe with family. It was our first visit to the town. I must say we had a great time there and were impressed with Santa Fe and the area. The town is beautiful and full of wonderful things to photograph including the famous Loretto Chapel. Here is a handheld shot of the spiraling staircase. The craftsmanship is just beautiful.

Canon 24mm TSE

History of the staircase (https://www.lorettochapel.com/info/staircase (external link))

"When the Loretto Chapel was completed in 1878, there was no way to access the choir loft twenty-two feet above. Carpenters were called in to address the problem, but they all concluded access to the loft would have to be via ladder as a staircase would interfere with the interior space of the small Chapel.

Legend says that to find a solution to the seating problem, the Sisters of the Chapel made a novena to St. Joseph, the patron saint of carpenters. On the ninth and final day of prayer, a man appeared at the Chapel with a donkey and a toolbox looking for work. Months later, the elegant circular staircase was completed, and the carpenter disappeared without pay or thanks. After searching for the man (an ad even ran in the local newspaper) and finding no trace of him, some concluded that he was St. Joseph himself, having come in answer to the sisters' prayers.

The stairway's carpenter, whoever he was, built a magnificent structure. The design was innovative for the time and some of the design considerations still perplex experts today.

The staircase has two 360 degree turns and no visible means of support. It is said that the staircase was built without nails—only wooden pegs. Questions also surround the number of stair risers relative to the height of the choir loft and about the types of wood and other materials used in the stairway's construction."

That’s where my username came from. Back in the day I was heavily into pink floyd and the had to create a username for windows xp. From then on xpfloyd has just been the one I keep using

Funny...I have always assumed it was a reference to Pink Floyd but couldn’t quite imagine what the xp was . I think I thought the p was for Pink! Lol now I know!

I arrived in Prague today for 4 days but didn’t bring a camera! I was so hungover this morning from a works night out that when I was packing I couldn’t even deal with the decision of what to bring :-P . I just brought the osmo pocket instead. My plan is to take lots of random footage and have a go at putting together a short travel video with lumafusion on the iPad. I bought the app the other day but haven’t used it yet

That’s freakin’ hilarious!

they are alluding to fast AF based on the design. The center element looks like it only needs little movement to travel the range.

Will likely get one once the price drops, 1.4 lens that weighs about as much as the tamron..... I'm just sad it's not a 135 with those size specs, but I dont mind owning both a fast 85 and 135.....

It honestly does look pretty tempting. The sample images on PetaPixel seem really good, I like the design of it too. If the weight and price are good, I may even consider selling my 85mm f/1.8 for it.

I was the same. There was a period in my life when it was all I listened to. Nowadays not so much but I still enjoy it from time to time

Long editing sessions usually have a lot of PF...today I will be painting a lot in the house...there will be Floyd.

My wife has gotten several 'brand rep' deals going on. Basically, these custom boutiques send us clothes for our daughter, and in exchange, I take photos and my wife advertises on her instagram. Bow and dress are from different boutiques. It's actually a lot of work as we have to produce content at a pretty steady pace.

I've been there and with the lighting and crowds it's a real challenge to get a good shot like you did. Well done!

Thank you Tim. Yes I completely agree that it's a tough place to shoot.

Sometimes you’re not looking for a specific type of gear, but a great opportunity comes up. Started to research a NAS unit and since I had experience with Synology, priced one out. Didn’t want to spend too much so priced out a basic unit with 4 bays and 4TB drives. Came out to around $1,100. Saw one on FM, upgraded unit to what I was looking at, upgraded ram, and 4 6TB drives instead. Priced out after tax and it was $1,500. Got it for $600 less than that or a little over $900.

Initializing the drives now, ETA is around 9 hours, lol. Can’t wait to get this up to replace my Promise Pegasus 2 8TB unit.

Great deal, congrats! Looks like a nice unit.

Coincidentally I’ve had some interest lately in upgrading my Drobos - one of them - just to gain some speed. However it looks like lens gluttony is going to prevent me from doing that or upgrade my camera. :p

I think I had the original Drobo back in the unit, nice units. Just saw more benefit in having a NAS including now that it has 4K encoding and my kids are starting to stream more things. Being able to share folders and galleries with family is nice. Tomorrow is my trip to Vegas and just packing a single Ricoh GRII. Should be a good test.
