Haha...yes you sure do; a nice consistent and unique approach to color.

Thank you. I didn't do too much of it on this one though ;) From Rhigos looking north east towards the Brecon Beacons.

One of my Marine buddies came by my neighbor's yesterday to visit. He had been in the hospital recovering from a stroke so it was good to see him again.

He must be feeling better as he had no problem enjoying a beer. :-)

Appreciate it. I want to go back and shoot more of the buildings and architecture.

---------------

When I was researching places to hike around the Santa Fe area, I came across Bandelier National Monument and decided to check it out on our second full day in New Mexico. The weather was quite nasty with intermittent rain, wind, and cold. Still, my wife and son (almost 6 years old) made the hour drive through some beautiful scenery up to Bandelier near Santo Domingo Pueblo. Wow, what an amazing hike we had. We hiked the main loop. There is a 22 mile back country hike which would be amazing one day.

We explored smaller cave dwellings and made the decision to go all the way to the Alcove house which is located about 140 feet above the floor of the Frijoles Canyon. To reach the Alcove House, you have to climb a series of 4 wooden ladders and stone stairs. Two of the ladders in particular are quite long. Just don't look down! I was so impressed and proud of our son who reached the top but more importantly made it all the way down (with me right next to him protecting him).

Inside the Alcove House, there is a reconstructed kiva and the viga holes and niches of former homes. I don't know how the ancestral Pueblo people climbed to the top. The view from the top was excellent although we had grey gloomy skies. I managed to capture some shots including this 10 shot pano that I shot handheld. At first, I was upset that people wouldn't clear the area for me to shoot but now after editing the image, I'm happy to include these visitors like us. I'm also pleased that the pano stitched without issue. I shot them in the vertical orientation and just overlapped a lot.

FE 16-35 GM

Note: I'll get back to posting a few more images from Cross of the Martyr's soon.

I shot a dance competition over the weekend and it was much more challenging then I had expected. It was in a high school gym and I was stationed about half way back in the bleachers, shooting with the 70-200 GM. My vantage point proved challenging since I was unable to clear the heads of the judges in the front row for a lot of shots. I picked up the gig for a company that was selling the pictures to the families of the dancers. I had to shoot in JPEG so they could upload directly to a computer to make sales. I've gotten spoiled shooting RAW and editing my images, so this proved to big a big challenge. A few points from the day:

1.) stage lighting is really terrible!

2.) jpeg shooting and "getting it right in camera" is really challenging in an action scenario.

3.) dance photography is tricky. I discovered early on that I was anticipating the action too quickly and I had to force myself to introduce a very subtle lag to my shooting to capture the dancers at the right time.

4.) The 70-200 GM is a solid lens. I've heard mixed reviews, but I found the sharpness to be very good, even at 200mm and the autofocus was extremely fast and consistent.

5.) a7r III AF is very decent. My keeper rate was high and I was impressed on how I was able to keep my subjects in focus, despite a lot of movement going on.

6.) 42 MP comes in really handy when you need to crop. Crop mode is especially useful in focal length limited situations if you have to deliver JPEG images

Back from Napa, Flying in the Cessna 182 over the bay out to point reyes then over the ocean (with grey whales below) back over to Bodega Bay then a stop in Petaluma for lunch then over Sonoma and back to Napa 4.5 hours of flight time. I was having so much fun and the pexiglass was too thick so didnt get many aerial shots. But then had a few days to shoot some stuff. Lightroom is being bad to me so only edited a few. Below is from the Point Reyes area which we drove the next day after our flight

I have no talent. so the lens is entirely wasted on me, but I shoot for pleasure so having fun with it nonetheless. ;) I really like the way the lens renders...just a slight touch of 3d to my eyes. Good color too.
