Well, after following this thread for a long time and seeing the great photos taken with this lens I jumped in and bought a refurb from Canon for $ 1495. Next, I'll be looking for the 1.4X III extender as it seems to be a popular combination for birding. My Tamron 150-600 can get the job done but occasionally it can be frustrating waiting for it to lock focus on fast moving subjects such as eagles fishing and battling over their catch.
