Very nice Martin, was the shot taken handheld? The reason I ask is, I also went out this morning, had really clear skies and kept the sun to my back and didn't even get one keeper. Last time I did this I had at least six or eight out of twenty. All this after the update. Now I wondering if I need to micro adjust the autofocus.

Thanks,
Harry

Thank you - Yes, handheld. When I first purchased the lens I micro adjusted it but found the focus in the real world to be hit a miss so I reset it back to default. I get much better results with no adjustments but this latest firmware has knocked it for 6 in terms of OS

not being funny , BUT perhaps the lens resolution has been changed by the updates making the camera unable to resolve enough from the lens ... any chance you could borrow try a up to date canon lens i.e the 100-400 mk2 to see if it makes any difference Martin . I say this because a friend of mine has been having trouble with his sports lens since buying a 1d4 .. that has now gone back to sigma for repair as he dropped it . so will update on return .

the centre of your image is pin sharp perhaps a smaller aperture i.e more d.o.f

just been texting a mate of mine that was on the verge of selling his lens , and he has stated that since the updates his lens is a lot better and he has now decided to keep it

So what once was good is now bad and what once was bad is now good!

I tried to contact Sigma again but no response to either attempts. However, I realized I had forgot to register my lens. So now that I have I'll try to contact them again. Right now it's like I don't have OS at all.

Do I recall someone saying that it is best to microadjust the lens in camera vs using the dock and software?

Do I also recall another saying that if we adjust our camera by - for example, +5 then it would equal a +10 using the dock/software?

It is early in the season so I want to re-calibrate and see if I can get focus bang-on.

I'm sure you know, on a 7d mark ll when you preview the shot on the LCD screen at a certain magnification level you can see where the focus point was for the shot. I know on this shot the focus point was on the male wood duck. To me, the image looks soft. Am I being too picky?

Thank you,
Harry

I always adjust in camera because I have three bodies the lens may be used on. I have never tried focus adjustment using the dock. I did the update and don't know if it really helped, but can't tell that it hurt anything.
