Hi everyone, thinking of getting myself a canon 135mm F2L next week for dog portraits.

Just wondering what the AF is like for when the dogs are darting around to

I don't own this lens, but am thinking of picking one up used. From everything I've read about it, the AF should be stellar.

The AF is plenty fast. If there is any focus issues it would be the limitations of your camera and skill set.

That honestly wasn't meant as a diss. Just that there is a tendency to blame the gear first.

Yea, the AF is fast, without doing a scientific test it is as fast as anything else I have. I used it for basketball (as far as needing fast AF) and never found it lacking. Very nice lens for your application.

Focusing speed is extremely quick on this lens, as you'd expect from a longer L prime - it's definitely faster than the 70-200f4L, which I see you also have in your gear list. While it is very accurate as well, keep in mind that the shallow depth of field makes it easy to miss your intended focus point (ie- the lens is very accurate, but prone to user error).

If you're using it outdoors or in larger indoor arenas, then it should be a really good match; however, be aware of its longer focal length, especially on a crop body, which can be limiting. I love mine when shooting outdoors - the sharpness, clarity and bokeh are awesome - and I've gotten some magical shots from it.
