Much like the R3 at this point.

The new AF seems really promising, braindead simple, point, lock, jumps to eyes when it can. Loving the modern firmware. Downside is that I lost all settings.

So a9 firmware out and you've upgraded?

Yes, lots of new features and settings, toggle aps-c is there, but clear image zoom is not? Ughhh, a shame, really nice on the R3 for video shooters. I never noticed that you could do picture styles in video, high key is flat, wonder if that can work like log...

The update is massive, will take a while to figure all these nuances.

Life is busy at the moment but i ended up grabbing a 35mm f/2.8 for now... Might be returning it for the f/1.4.. I love how small this is but frequently wish i could isolate a little more

I've shot in APS-C on the a9, not my first choice for distant wildlife, too many times FF 24mpx isn't enough since I always
have to crop in......but I know in APS-C the buffer is endless, so it has a place.
Did you notice intervalometer? Very important. I find a9 better for wide field astro than the A7riii and the a9 would be first
I grab for Milky Way.
Was also kinda hoping they'd throw in Smooth-Reflections while there were on a roll

No intervalometer, that comes in summer for the A9. R3 gets it first.

Crop mode= for video, very useful.

btw, imaging edge mobile is out, it replaces playmemories. Seems like a very similar interface, however you can now import 4K and 1080/120 direct to device. pretty darn nifty, need for workarounds.

Hey guys. Question for you all. I have to shoot a Spring Gala for my kids school. It's going to be in a venue where they are putting Black curtains along all the walls and it's not going to be a well lit environment from what I'm hearing. Not completely dark but significantly dimmed lighting. Not sure if the ceiling is white and how high it is yet. If I have a white ceiling I can use my on camera speed light to bounce flash into the ceiling. My worry is if the ceiling is not white. I have an Flashpoint XPLOR 600 with the remote head but don't have an assistant to walk around holding a pole with a softbox while I take pictures of people. So my question is if I don't have a white ceiling to bounce flash with a speedlight I know there are some on camera speed light modifiers. Curious what people here have used and been happy with and how you would recommend I use that modifier on the speed light? Do I lower the power a few stops with the modifier on the speed light so the light isn't as harsh? Do you recommend MagMod Magsphere or something else for my speedlight? I know many of you shoot weddings and events and have probably encountered this issue in the past, just looking for advice. Thanks.

I'm using Gary Fong's collapsible Litghsphere. Yah if you like a softer light. Use a little ISO like ISO800(which is nothing in terms of noise) and less power on your speedlight.

Do you point the lightsphere at the subject or is it pointing up to the ceiling like you would do with a speed light and a flashcard? Do you have any pics on a flickr account or somewhere using the lightsphere? Just curious what the light will look like.

I use the magbounce, which is more of a directional modifier. Omnidirectional modifiers work great when there are good surfaces to bounce off of, otherwise you're wasting a lot of flashpower that will be absorbed by dark walls. If there aren't good surfaces, then you need a directional light source with a modifier to increase the apparent size of your light source.

yes there about .. we're not totally sure , but in the area.

we're both going to try and become better hikers.. we only go out 2 or 3 times a year .. we going to try and get out at least 1 or 2 times a month while the weather is decent.

almost everytime we go out we have a trail in mind (that we find online) but we're never actually sure that we are on it

we were looking for a place/ trail called doodletown ,

the first step though is proper hiking shoes for us and a hiking stick for her.. she's got a bad knee and needs the support often ,, she normally just picks up any random stick that looks sturdy enough
