That’s great to hear. I do enjoy living here except for a few months in the summer.

I know the feeling, living near the coast can sometimes be unbearable then, throw in a hurricane and it really gets fun.

Do you point the lightsphere at the subject or is it pointing up to the ceiling like you would do with a speed light and a flashcard? Do you have any pics on a flickr account or somewhere using the lightsphere? Just curious what the light will look like.

these are pointing up.

doh..

yes there about .. we're not totally sure , but in the area.

we're both going to try and become better hikers.. we only go out 2 or 3 times a year .. we going to try and get out at least 1 or 2 times a month while the weather is decent.

almost everytime we go out we have a trail in mind (that we find online) but we're never actually sure that we are on it:lol:

we were looking for a place/ trail called doodletown ,

the first step though is proper hiking shoes for us and a hiking stick for her.. she's got a bad knee and needs the support often ,, she normally just picks up any random stick that looks sturdy enough

Yep hard to tell there even for me when I was hiking through because of many other and intersecting trails.

Here is another I finished again from downtown SATX. The light was just so nice when I shot these series of images. I wanted to capture someone walking along the bridge and fortunately someone walking their dog walked into my scene. I love it when a plan comes together.

As long as you can return it then you'll be fine. I actually tried one recently at a Sony event and quite liked it. If it wasn't for the QC issues and stores here being horrible at returns, I'd give it a try. The Sigma is more in my budget though.

That's a shame, it's a surprisingly great lens!

Sounds like your kit is all set now.

Mine is currently 16-35, 35, 28-75, 85 and 90mm. I never really have a need for tele lenses but down the track I'll probably add the Sigma 135 Art considering I can get it for around $1200 AUD on sale.

Its also that the Sigma is slightly heavier and stuff and ive heard things about the AF that make me nervous, Its not a bad lens, and i have plenty of Sigma (See the Sigma 150-600 i currently own/love to use with the MC-11) if it wasnt for the fact i am planning to use it for some fun shots of my Corgis (I found the 35mm f/2.8 to be REALLY FUN for getting say, nice shots of their entire bodies, or giving a cool perspective shot of them playing/lounging, or to get both corgis in one picture easily, its just the f/2.8 is a little wanting when it comes to getting rid of the backgrounds..) where i badly need the best AF i can manage

The 35mm will also be used in low light, in restaurants and stuff where ive found the f/1.8 on the 55 necessary, The 35mm will also allow more things in focus for a given aperture which can be important or desirable in those situations.

Which isnt to say i didnt like the f/2.8, i honestly didnt know if the aperture was going to be an issue and i did feel there were some advantages to the small nature of the lens like being able to work with it in some spots i might not be able to otherwise, The optical quality was nice and it has superb colors. Which is i suppose another reason im going for the Distagon, the coatings on my Zeiss glass are appealing to me

Tho totally get why people love the Sigma, its a great lens period and it really just came down to some of the side by sides I saw where i just felt the bokeh and rendering on the Distagon looked nicer to my eyes, ive had a lot of sigmas as i said and most of them were stellar, and its not that i dislike the Sigma look either.. if it was available where im buying the Distagon id probably consider trying it.

And yeah, my kit is mostly set, ill rent a 24-105 if i go somewhere where ill need it, and i might get an ultrawide zoom (The 12-24 f/4 maybe, or convert a Sigma over) Hopefully the rumors about an e mount native 150-600 are true too.. Wonder if i can do the Sigma mount conversion on mine if they release a E-mount version of this lens as i hear the native E-mount works better than the MC-11 converted ones

Well I've been sweating the 16-35mm GM.
Vinz was even considering selling me his.
I puzzled on it because I really like the FE16-35/4 I already have
and even think it has better Sun stars than the GM.

Then I remembered Tamron will issue the 17-28/2.8.
That focal length is one off for me. When I look at my Flickrs
the vast majority of shots are 300mm and greater, ususally much
longer.

So I've decided to push away 16-35GM gas and patiently wait for
the Tamron FE 17-28....and hope it gets here before end of August
for the flight north.

I bet the Tam will be light enough that I can take it and the 24/1.4 too.

The larger aperture is definitely worth the upgrade. I remember I loved my 35mm f/2 IS and the only disappointing thing about it was that sometimes I wanted that f/1.4 as it gives a real 3D pop to images. With an 85 it destroys the background but the 35 puts the focus on the subject but at the same time shows that little hint of the background that gives some context to it.

I have to admit I was somewhat anti sigma after bad experiences with them. I was hesitant to get this 35 Art and even cancelled my preorder last year but I'm glad I finally got it. The lens is big and heavy but if you look at the specs, it's pretty much the same as the Sony Distagon.

Jason Vong and Chris turner have done comparrisok videos if you want to check them out :) but since you can't get it at your store might not be worth it.

I was also looking at the Sony 12-24 but considering how well the Canon 16-35mm works with MC-11 I haven't seen it necessary yet.

Bokeh, colors and rendering are definitely where the distagon shine. Also, the AF is extremely fast and solid. It's a great lens for environmental portraits, but it's stellar for wedding and event work too.

It's a staple lens for me.
