Random confession: I have been a closet admirer of the weird Sony 100mm GM.

At first I didn’t appreciate that it can’t crush a background like a faster lens can. But it does something I rather love: it punches its subjects out from from the background. Not exactly a 3d rendering, but a very cool look imo.

I follow various lens groups on Flickr, including most all of the GM lenses, but the 100mm GM image group is my favorite.

Doubtful, atm, I’ll buy one, but I admit wishing I had one.

David see if Roger C has one to rent for a week. I thought about renting a 400gm for the trip later this summer but decided
just to take the D850 and 500 for the long stuff.

Bokeh, colors and rendering are definitely where the distagon shine. Also, the AF is extremely fast and solid. It's a great lens for environmental portraits, but it's stellar for wedding and event work too.

It's a staple lens for me.

There's no practical flight test in the U.S. it's more of the rules, weather, risk, air space, etc.

We have to do set manoeuvres to show that we can control the drone. Things like figure of 8s and also flying in a square with the drone pointing in different directions (like the drone pointing towards you but you having to fly right so push left on the stick). You need to show them you can bring the drone back if you lose gps. Another key part of the practical flight test is the planning. They give us a fake commercial job to do at the location and we need to produce a full plan - risk assessment, sketches and diagrams, weather check, notam check etc etc

Yes I actually quite like the Sigma bokeh despite the fact I didn't expect to. Haha I am saving for it now but she has expensive taste so will take some time! 8 years this year too so she keeps hassling me about it :p

It probably should be that way here too but we are too afraid of making things unattainable for all so we don't make it hard to pass...
I have decided to get the older Mavic Air, maybe used and start there and get the non commercial stuff done for now and then practice. Then get my insurance and all.set for 2020.

Quick editing related question if you guys don't mind please.....

With my boy now having the A6000, what would be best to edit in? He'll be shooting RAW. Mainly wide landscape dark skies and lunar through the telescope - maybe deep sky at some stage. I know the latter is going to involve stacking software.

Something more catalogue based would be idea? Does Capture One work like that? With radial and graduated brushes etc as per Lightroom?

What about layers and blending? I might have an older copy of Photoshop somewhere? Is there anything free? Maybe that Affinity I see advertised am over YouTube?

I don't really want to sign him up for anything subscription?!!

Oh, to add. He's 13 and doesn't live with me.

Layers on C1 are great - not quite PS, but more than LR. A couple weeks ago, I mentioned that C1 is currently 50% off for the Pro Sony edition, bringing it to $110. Pricing is good through the end of the month, so a few more days. You can DL a 30-day trial to play with for a couple days before you decide on the purchase. In the meantime, I'd watch a couple short tutorials on layers, luma-masking, etc.

Basic adjustments/workflow -

Layers basics -

Luminosity masking (very cool) -

Bill is my name - I'm the most wanted man on my island, except I'm not on my island, of course. More's the pity.
