Great shot. I'm always trying to fill the frame with Owls but the environment background really adds to this IMHO.

Our Powerful owls are preparing for the breeding season. Finding and choosing mates and I suspect fighting each other for territory.
One relaxed and one alert Owl:

Lovely photos of handsome birds.
Good to see these.
Where's the one eyed one?

Thanks Richard.
The one-eyed Powl has not been seen since December.
I know of a one-eyed male that has survived the past 3 years, he has become a stay at home dad during breeding season and his mate does most of the hunting so loss of one eye is definitely not a death sentence.

Another local Powerful owl. There is a gouge on it's cere, the bit above the beak, running vertically down with a bit of the gouged out piece hanging to the left, lit by the sun.
I suspect another Powl was responsible for the injury, probably territorial dispute.

Powerful owl. She had sex tonight at 7:16pm, 1 minute later than yesterday and Wednesday and Thursday last week. Conveniently the female makes a distinctive noise during sex, a bit like Muttley from Stop the Pigeon. Hopefully I'll get to see her chick(s) late July.

That, sir, is an audible image that is both fascinating and terrifying... Does the owl wear a flying cap and goggles as well? :)
