We stopped for a beer at a brewery while out looking for things to shoot (the pics before were from when I gave up looking for wildlife/landscapes and shot the car instead  ), I was mind blown at how wide my friend's Laowa 10-18mm was, and how close it focused. He could pretty much touch the front element to the glass and still have the entire glass and above/below it in the frame.

I definitely should have stopped down the lens more (obviously), but I was more focused on my beer

I usually kinda hate shots that are just pure Bokeh like this... but I'm OK with this one... must be the beer!

What is it called?

I'm looking for a cable to connect my Yongnou flash/shutter controller to my X-T2 but I don't know what type of cable it is and "cable" isn't getting me the search results I need. 0.25 to 0.35 but what type of cable is it? Anyone help please?

off by a hand and a foot :-( … better luck next time

Still a great shot with the two different generations beside one another. The four legs are in stride too, just missing that tiny bit of frame to the right.

These are from yesterday, just concept shots really but it was good to use the new (to me) 35mm a little. I had to go and pick up my Master's certificate from the University and there's a dry river bed that runs alongside the town. It would have been quite a big river at one stage but now has at least two roads crossing it. I'm interested in photographing more of these dry rivers in light of the fact that unless we do something, water will become ever more scarce. Anyway, I got fortuitous with some of the vehicles crossing the river bed.

It called a 'Sync Cable', you need a 2.5mm to whatever is on your flash trigger (probably the same). It looks like a headphone cord with two male ends.

I have an X-T30 coming in June. As a Sony user primarily I got one for either my daughter, my fiancé, or myself to use when the need for lighter/more compact gear is called for. Traveling, etc. My question is do you guys usually shoot jpeg and use a film simulation or something like that? I really dig the fuji colors that I've been seeing during my research. OR do you guys shoot raw and edit. My normal workflow is raw with my sony then process in lightroom. But if a jpeg looks awesome and can be easily shared with family, friends, social media, SOOC then that's awesome too. Is that legit?

I think most of us edit the RAWs with whatever RAW processor suits our fancy.

You can still have the great Fuji color presets as a starting point using Lightroom, Capture One, and several others. I usually edit my shots using a film simulation preset in Capture One as a starting point.

That said, the JPEGs are in deed very good. I frequently use my cameras RAW processor to convert RAWs I like on site and send them to my phone for social media. Most of the shots in the past couple of years on my Instagram for example, were SOOC JPEGs created in camera and then sent to my phone to be uploaded.

https://www.instagram.com/lucas_g_photos/ (external link)

Here's some examples of a processed RAW with Capture One vs the in camera JPEG conversion I had made prior. I made my best shot at remembering which conversion tweaks I made to each one in camera, I have no way to recall exactly what I did, but it should be close based on how I usually edit RAWs in camera.

SOOC JPEG (I believe it was Provia, +2 sharpness, -1 highlights, -4 noise reduction; that's usually my base point)

IMAGE: https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1936/44862564594_4afd4baceb_h.jpg
IMAGE LINK: https://flic.kr/p/2bmmnt1 (external link) October2018 101 (external link) by Lucas (external link), on Flickr

C1 RAW edit (I believe I used the Pro Negative High film simulation as a starting point)
IMAGE: https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1942/44862565574_25d487a495_h.jpg
IMAGE LINK: https://flic.kr/p/2bmmnKU (external link) October2018 100 (external link) by Lucas (external link), on Flickr

SOOC JPEG (I think this one was the same as above, though highlights may have been pulled to -2)
IMAGE: https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1954/43099947100_3b973573d1_h.jpg
IMAGE LINK: https://flic.kr/p/28EAuGd (external link) Beach2018 143 (external link) by Lucas (external link), on Flickr

C1 RAW edit (I can't remember how I processed this one)
IMAGE: https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1941/43100421740_4f5803968b_h.jpg
IMAGE LINK: https://flic.kr/p/28ECVME (external link) Beach2018 124 (external link) by Lucas (external link), on Flickr

SOOC JPEG (I believe this one was ACROS Y, +3 sharpness, +1 shadows, -4 noise reduction)
IMAGE: https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4728/39295090372_1e446584aa_h.jpg
IMAGE LINK: https://flic.kr/p/22SnBm9 (external link) DSCF2307 (external link) by Lucas (external link), on Flickr

C1 RAW edit (I believe this one was again the ACROS Y film simulation as a starting point)
IMAGE: https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4693/39295093312_a433a561ba_h.jpg
IMAGE LINK: https://flic.kr/p/22SnCdQ (external link) DSCF2256_1 (external link) by Lucas (external link), on Flickr

Sometimes I look at the JPEG after editing and realize that I actually prefer the SOOC JPEG, the last example of those 3 is one such image, though the C1 edit would likely print better which I think was my original intention (my sister ended up not loving the shot as much as I did so I didn't print it for her). I have a tendency to get ahead of myself sometimes when processing and push the file too much... seeing the SOOC JPEGs remind me to tone it back.

Whether or not you can shoot exlusively with JPEG is really only something you can answer. The JPEGs hold up fine to basic edits. I always keep the RAW incase I need to make big color changes, or adjust shadows/highlights though.

You've entered a world of fantastic Fuji engineering. They've put tremendous amount of efforts in baking the RAW files as well as heavily evolved methods of making Jpegs stunning. This is one huge difference between other camera systems. No pixie dust sprinkes on Nikon/Sony/Canon files. Fuji has a totally different unique look and color. You'll be shocked how much easier Fuji files are to tweak in Post. AWB is very good and simple tweaks to please your eyes.

I recently helped pick up an X-t30 with 18-55 and 50 f/2 for a friend. he's dumbfounded how his new fuji files look so good sooc compared to his consumer grade Nikon aps-c gear. I told him to enjoy his new found fuji love. So far he's happy with his application and needs.

Nycdude you 'll find your Sony files to look totally different in RENDER vs the Fuji files. You'll see once you start comparing Sony files vs Fuji. The more I shoot with Sony I am starting to get use to the files over my Canon and Fuji files.

Usually I'll shoot both, sometimes I'll just use the JPEGs especially when I'm shooting an event and need instant upload ability. If not then I'll edit the raw in Capture One. C1 gives the raw files the film sim you have selected camera by default so they can look similar to what you see in camera. Very easy to change that though if you prefer.
EDIT: It's also free for Fuji shooters :-)

The camera has a pretty decent raw converter built in, part of the reason the JPEGs look so good, and you have full[Ish] control over that. Take a bit of time learning the few different settings you can apply as default and enjoy.

My experience with XT1 is that jpegs are nice unless you shooting high ISOs where there is smearing. Also for someone like me who is not that good in pp, processing jpegs to adjust WB is harder compared to RAWs.

Jpegs are 8bit [256 tones] where the fuji raws are 14bit or 16384 tones [the Phase shoots 16bit raws, that's a whopping 65536 tones!]. Put that into the colours and it get big numbers time fast, 8 bit is 16.7 million colours, where as 16 bit is a whopping 281,474,976,710,656 (281 trillion)! Only part of the reason those 101mp xf100mp files are feckin massive.

So much more info in the raw files when you go to edit. Of course you can replace/change colours easily enough in photoshop but nothing like as easy as in C1 or Lr...

Yesterday a friend asked for a favour to update his headshot, the company had a photographer come in and just didn't get him right, the usual of just a couple of shots and no real direction. Naturally I said yes, as he did the surveying on my house for free how could I say no.
Also I very nearly got into a fight walking back to the studio from the shop, two very normal looking people who I think were father and son just seemed to take a dislike to the way I looked or whatever, life is far too short to worry or give any time to those kind of people. I let my decades of Aikido do the talking...

Stuart showed me his website and the other partners shots, B&W with white back easy enough so. The headshot we did in the end, 6:30pm on a Saturday, long week...
