I will be honest. I was disappointed with the firmware update. They should have addressed some captain obvious things. This next update R body is going to be a make or break body for canons mirrorless line up. Its going to be really interesting if they announce a body that its not on par to the A7111 0r A9 and does not have the performance capabilities of the 5D4.

I am very interested in the mirrorless technology. But the bodies need to be at least as good as the 5D4. Otherwise whats the point of buying other than to line Canons pocket. I hate that canon is not more forth coming.

I thought I read on this forum that some people were using the EOS-R instead of the 5D4 and they were happy they had switched to the R?

Several people have said that, but personally, the FPS and a few other minor issues would still sway me to the 5DIV, not much in it mind....

Some are happy with the change, some aren't. I wouldn't want to shoot sports with an R, and there's a thread over on CR with a few others who feel the same. It's a fun vacation camera, but for that I almost wish I could get an RP with the new sensor. And the 24-240.

It all depends on the user.. I have zero issues with it and the issues I have with is due to aftermarket compatibility (godox flashes) makes the ISO jump here and there but other then that it works perfectly. Actually, I need to use it more often but I have been on a film shooting spree lately using some film SLRs i acquired last year. I used my Minolta SRT101 and Pentax SP500 with frozen light meter this past weekend. I relied on the Sunny16 rule and a phone app light meter. I am now waiting on a bettery for the Canon EOS620.. Been having fun with the basics I never had a chance to do when I was younger.

When I had my 7d2, I chose the R over the 5d4 and all I shoot is sports and wildlife/birds with the occasional paid/unpaid event. So far so good for me. In fact, I absolutely enjoy using the 28-70 f2 during basketball games.

It's nice that there are so many options, isn't it? I don't understand the attitude of wanting everyone else to use the same cameras (or whatever) as you do.

I wish I had the time to try the old AE-1 at my grandmother's house.

Uh oh. I have 4 GODOX 860 flashes. What is the issues with the Godox flashes? I generally use the Yungnuo C-22 remote flash controllers. Any issues there?

Well for me and a handfull of reports is that my ISO would jump to auto or to 1600 randomly. I have tried everything to pinpoint the problem and I only have this problem on this camera when I use the Godox X1T. I use it to trigger both my Godox AD360II or to trigger a strobe paired with an X1R the result is the same. I have not tried my Godox v860ii on it yet I think I'll try that tonight and see if it behaves normally like my Canon flashes and I will try to trigger the off can flashes with it as well. I have used both my Canon 430exii and 580exii with no issues but these are just on camera not triggering anything.

DigitalTuned, do you use the control ring ef-rf adapter?

Last time it jumped to ISO 1600 for me I noticed I was able to turn the control ring from auto ISO (where it was at to get 1600) one click to get to ISO 100 (where I was shooting). Normally I cannot get to auto ISO from the control ring. I’m sort of wondering if that’s a part of this.

Maybe I’ll try the non-control ring adapter next time...

(Just hypothesizing wildy...)

Yeah man, its awesome! While some are screaming XY camera sucks because XY person never bought it so everyone that did, including myself, suck too for owning it and we should be ashamed of ourselves  hahaha..

Me, give me a camera and I'll use it to the best of my abilities making use of that shutter instead of giving my opinion or flaming a camera I do not own. Fanboys are really something else.. BTW both my AE-1 are the only vintage cameras that have working light meters.

I do use the adapter but mine is the basic one and not the one with the control ring. This is good info becuase that further puts it in the Godox gear. They (Godox) just need to tweak that bug with a FW update.

You did read that. Obviously the next firmware update is not make and break. If it was, how have Canon already sold many EOS-R?

Photographers have many different wants and needs. There are features of the R that meet some of those needs and to some are exactly the point of why they would choose the R over the 5D4.
I made a list of Pros and Cons (from my perspective as obviously we all can only speak from that perspective) a few pages back and forgot a huge Pro - the Video implementation, specifically the way Video and Stills settings have been separated. I am fully aware some never use use Video. I do some Video and the fact I can quickly switch between Stills and Video is a massive advantage of the R over any DSLR made by Canon. I do almost all wildlife so the crop factor that so many hate is a Pro for me, not a Con.

Triggering the Godox AD360II with my Godox V860II... Works great, no random ISO jump as of yet
Here is the next film camera i will be using, if it works when the battery arrives, demonstrated by Finn and Jake.

It did happen to me a couple of times, but I could never reproduce it, it would just happen. I've since switched to ISO plus hold meter button and the ring does not jump settings without holding the shutter or BBF buttons at the same time. I have the Flashpoint (Adorama rebrand of Godox) R2 Pro Mark II that I've used, but I can try using the Mark I as well as the R2 E-TTL (X1T) soon.
