Nor do I, but the name makes sense because ground tyrants prey on insects on the ground (external link).

Thanks for the comment. I did not know that! I followed up, though, and you are right.

This particular individual seems to be more of a barn-tyrant, though!

Thank you very much Shalu.
I've caught them when they are fishing in large numbers. That's when I've found most of the males.
Common Mergansers fishing.

wow, I have not seen something like that before, so many of them together.

This shot is an outstanding, hard to get, classic shot, Shalu. In my opinion, it's world-class.bw!

Thank you so much, Mike! Really appreciate your compliments.

Very nice and sharp image, Richard! The sharpness you got from such slow shutter speed is impressive! Olympus has the best image stabilization.

Many thanks Shalu for your kind comments.
Yes, the Olympus stabilisation is something I tend to take for granted.
But I do appreciate it.

You are most welcome, Shalu.

These common mergansers come thru my area every year around the same time. They will stay for two or three days, and just as fast as they came, they are gone.

This is a wonderfully artistic image that is most eye appealing. Everything about your shot is very nice.

Wow, I’m jealous !
I was hoping to see one, when I was in Northern Manitoba last fall, but no luck

Congrats on the lifer!

Thanks so much, Mike, Dave and Shalu! :-)

Dave, you should come for a visit... there's been six seen here in the last week or so (all in different areas of the Avalon Peninsula). The most gyrfalcon sightings I have ever heard of here! :-)

Very nice, Mike! It seems males are harder to come by. I have shot females quite a few times, never had a male.

Great capture, Candor! I thought it was holding a broken apple snail

Congrats on the lifer!

Love the low angle shot!
