PCS - I know, this is a spot the difference shot.:-) The dogs are different from the previous shot.
I like the tonal range though.

Hi Guys - and everyone interested in shipping. Have you considered posting your shipping pics to www.marinetraffic.com (external link) ? It is dedicated to shipping and gives ships details and locations etc. it may be of interest. Have look, it don't cost anything:-).

Regards

I post there but they are very fussy about not making one's photos very 'artsy' as they interpret it! I think I've has many rejected as accepted. It's a great site though.

Yes, Annie, they are very fussy, but when you get the hang of their rules you work around them.:-) If I get rejections it’s usually for lack of differentiation. I sometimes find the horizon alignment in dispute. However, I get very few rejections now I know their system :-). Also the 5 pic limitation on a single ship for 6 months is a pain. Where I am I often get many good shots with differentiation.
What surprises me is the number of more senior people still using film that I encounter shooting the shipping, I have tried to bring them into the 21st century but I’ve had little success. As a digital Evangelist I am a failure.:-(
Also the voting rules changed some time ago so we seem to get less votes :-(. I often get requests for pics/files from boat owners and crew.
Note regarding rules: Rules are made for the guidance of wise men and obedience by idiots.:-)

Scan of a 45 year old photograph of The Middletown entering the Soo Locks from Lake Huron. She started out as the USS Neshanic (AO-71) in WWII as a Kennebec-class oiler operating between the US and Japan. She was decommissioned in 1945 and sold to the Gulf Oil Company. In 1962 the ship was lengthened from 500 feet to 730 feet and converted to a bulk carrier and the name changed to the Middletown. In 1962 she was converted to a self-unloader and spend the majority of her time hauling various ores around the Great Lakes. She was resold in 2006 and renamed American Victory. It was sold again in 2017 and in 2018 she was towed to a Turkish scrapyard to be cut up.
