Nifty is looking forward to showing off our favorite places along the Front Range of Colorado. Today we checked out the History Colorado Center in Denver, which is a fantastic four story modern building holding interesting facts and objects of Colorado. I wanted to get a shot of the famous Welcome to Colorado sign that greets travelers along the Colorado border highways but I didn't want to travel 3-4 hours to get it. Lucky for me this place has one as you walk in the door. :p

The next thing we saw that grabbed our eyes was a display about the iconic Denver Broncos Barrel Man. I felt duty-bound to take a pic of the biggest Broncos fan I know, my husband Steve. lol

This is just an introduction, more to follow! Please travel along with us as we go.

I thought we would start Nifty off with a favorite place of mine that is just out my front door. The historic Highlands Ranch Mansion and the surrounding grounds include flower gardens, walking trails, open space, and a working cattle ranch. We see the occasional deer, fox, and coyotes along with great horned owls and red-tailed hawks who nest every year on the property. The Mansion went through an extensive $6 million renovation in 2012 and is now open to the public for tours, and is available for rent for weddings, parties, etc.

Let's go for a walk! This is the view to the west as we approach the Mansion with Mt. Evans in the distance.

6 shot Panorama of the HR Mansion. The history dates back to the 1800's, and the mansion was used in the filming of the mini-series "Centennial", which was based on the book by James Michener.

Looking from the backyard of the Mansion you see the field that is home to the ranch horses, and the Highlands Ranch Windmill.

There are several of these old lamps on the property.

This rusty hydrant is part of the backyard flower garden. Spring comes late in Colorado but the daffodils and tulips are going good now!

Paved entrance to the circular drive in front. Horse-drawn carriages carry the bride and groom through this entrance.

Yes! We see adults and juveniles every year there. They nest in the nearby trees and lead the family over to hang out at the silos. Here is a shot from a few years ago.

Today Nifty visited another favorite place of mine, Hudson Gardens, in Littleton, CO. It's thirty acres of garden exhibits and trails, and also hosts summer concerts on the grass. It's open to the public year round, with no admission fee. My kind of place! :p

Since it is still early spring for us, the blooming flowers are limited and the trees are still gathering their leaves. But it was a pretty morning so we strolled along, keeping an eye on the dark clouds moving in from the mountains. By the time we left we were hearing thunder, woohoo! We'll take the moisture any day.
