Because nowadays you don't need to know much to be able to press a shutter button and call yourself a photographer? Here's another half truth, I heard from a self proclaimed wedding photographer: "Nowadays you don't need expensive fast glass anymore because the sensors are so much more light sensitive then they used to be.".
