Thanks CallumRD1, perhaps my difficulty has to do with the fact that I have glasses, so my eye did not perfectly fit the evf and some external light enters. Or it could be that my eyes take more time to adapt to the change of brightness from full sun to the evf or from a dim church to the same evf.

Browsing various forums and reviews I found mixed feelings on this issue, with several purple regretting about the need of adapting evf brightness to the external luminosity.

I also discovered that the 5D4 has an automatic brightness adjustment for its screen, so there is some (very minor) hope that Canon adds the same opportunity to the evf of our R in future firmware updates. Finger crossed :-)

I don't wear glasses and I press my eye quite close to the EVF, blocking out almost all the ambient light. It sounds like this would be more of an issue with glasses where you can't block out the ambient light as well.

As a glasses wearer and experiencing some of the "light leak" into the EVF, I was looking into Hoodman HoodEYE Glasses Eyecup but wasn't sure if which - if any - of the models would fit on the EOS R. I tried tweeting them, but no reply. I guess I could call someone, but meh. Anyone have insight? Maybe I'll try asking a question on B&H and/or Amazon.

I end up cleaning my glasses a lot :-)

Pressing my glasses up to the eye piece to try and get a better visual when it is really bright gets smudges on them. But I have not had too much of an issue with the EVF.

So this is a Canon EOS R, Canon RF 35mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM and lighting post. LOL!

I saw a video on making a macro snoot from a Pringle’s can and decided to use on an older speedlight that’s been collecting dust. I’m happy with the results and the lens as well.

If only I ate pringles!
The things one can do with them for photography...

A few years back there was a White Balance trick with a pricey bit of hardware called an "Expodisk". It turned out you could save the $90.00 and just use a pringles lid!
