Why wasn't it just named a yellow-rumped warbler? Oh, never mind; that name was already taken. Nice shot, Archi.

Thanks for the comment. I don't know where the names come from. I suspect advertising folks are involved! Names with words like gold and lemon seem to be preferred over orange and yellow.

I played with the 400mm f2.8 Mk III at 1120mm today. I used the 2x III + 12mm tube + 1.4x III in live view. Results are pretty good.

Excellent results from stacked TCs, Rob! If you use 2X Mark II, you don't need any extension tube and will retain full infinity focus. At my recommendation, my friend (actually two of them) bought 3 2X Mark II and stacked them all together to get ID shots of distant birds (he used Canon 600II lens on Sony A9) :-P:lol:

Hi Rob...

Fantastic work with that amount of converters and tube. Have you tried stacking the 1.4x III and 2x III using the Canon 100-400 II lens? If so, I'd like to hear your evaluation of that combination. Also, I'm new to the concept of stacking converters and don't know what the rationale is for using an extension tube. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks
Tom

Hi Tom

Thanks for the comment. I never tried it with the 100-400mm II as I sold the lens awhile back. I am guessing quality will suffer a bit seeing you are starting off at F5.6 vs F 2.8. You only need the extension tube if you are using the Ver III extenders because they do not fit together like the Ver II extenders did due to the new design. You can use the 1.4x II and. 2x II without a tube. I never tried it as I have only the Ver III extenders to compare quality.

Canon should just come out with a 2.8X.

Tom,
I looked this up on YouTube and found some information that might help you out some.

https://www.youtube.com …stacking+canon+extenders+ (external link)

Just to help you out on the Canon 100-400mm vII, anything other than the Canon 1.4 extenders will not autofocus, it is futile to even try.
I have a Canon 400mm f/2.8 v1 and it will focus with a Canon 1.4x and the 2.0x, I can even shoot BiF with the 2.0x, but it is fairly slow. I use the Canon 1.4x ALL of the time on my Canon 100-400mm vII lens on my 7DmkII, it works so well that I usually leave it on. Some care for that, some don't. I can (usually) fix anything that I need in Photoshop.

Look at the video and then look at the surrounding videos there that may give you more light on this subject.
