This sign at a fire station says PUBLIC ENTRANCE, and from one angle a pillar blocks the EN. The idea of a public trance applies whenever you observe that people in general are apathetic about something you think worthy of caring about. The particular issue will vary. It's whatever inspires thoughts like "What a bunch of zombies!"

PRONOUN ADVISORY: OhLook is a she. | A FEW CORRECT SPELLINGS: lens, aperture, amateur, hobbyist, per se, raccoon, whoa | Comments welcome

Especially when they have a cell phone in their hand

That's one of my favorite complaints in the "nowadays" category. I see people nominally together but attending to their devices instead of their companions, or walking alone and ignoring their environment, forcing drivers and pedestrians to dodge them.

Tell me about it! I've had three business trips in the past month, and I'm tired of dodging people wandering aimlessly with their phones, back and forth, while making a connection on the other side of the airport. Try to go behind them, and they'll do an about face and walk in front of you again.

There's an algorithm called the drunkard walk that should be renamed the "cell phone user's walk"

All the world's indeed a stage and we are merely players performers and portrayers.

If they flipped it around, it would read like an American news show (Pho and Friends)
