I’m gona say yes.... I to was a spot metering lover for years.. with the R I have found it handles the whites and highlights quite well in Evaluative mode and I like the skin tones. It does skin very well. IMO

I wasn't even shooting much skin and it handled metering much better than my 5D3, and produced very pleasing files overall.

I love a like, but feedback (including CC) is even better!

Like those.

I was trying to guess the lens first without looking at the data and first wondered if it was a 135mm. The photo had me thinking prime rather than 70-200mm ... then I glanced and saw the 300mm.

Did you use one bare flash, or umbrella? Either way it looks good.

I used one flash with a 32" softbox. Here is another one from the set....

He reminds me a little of the photographer Ryan Brenizer who posts on Youtube.

I forgot to mention face detect and tracking worked well when i was taking the figure skater photos. I am comparing it to what I am used to which are my older DSLR cameras and nothing else. I enjoyed using it very much especially on a type of job that I am not really used to which is sports or super fast moving subjects. I would have had missed more shots using my 5d2 and 5d3. It can only get better and better and hopefully Canon focus on this more to make it better in the next firmware. But I must say it was very effective and it was one less thing I had to worry about as long as that square was on the correct place..

All the photo's here are amazing - wish I could take pictures like you all do!

I'm still waiting for my R so cannot contribute my own just yet. So, naturally, while I wait I'm agonising over what lens to buy for it next having sold lenses I wasn't using. :-D

I'm torn between the *RF 35 and an EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS II (I have the older version) for travel given I spend a lot of time between my home in Portugal and where my wife's work-base is in Amsterdam, Netherland so like to travel light on those trips. For vacation I'll happily take heavier kit. Decisions, decisions!

*Update: Ordered the RF 35. :-)

Canon EOS R5 with: RF 24-105 L, RF 70-200 2.8 L , RF 24-240, RF 35, RF 16, RF 100-500 L, RF 100 2.8 Macro L, EL 100, Fujifilm X100V, GoPro Hero 9, DJI Mavic Air 2, Insta360
