I sent two days (and nights) at Milford Sound / Milford Road. What an incredible place! It definitely exceeded my expectations. The second night, I got out of the van and tried to shoot some night shots, just before the moon appeared on the other side. Gosh, it was freaking cold but totally worth it!

can i ask what you use as a pano head? I'm using a ball head and struggling.

Same here. I should definitely invest in a pano head...

Another 8 shot stack of the milky way just outside of Auckland. Its great that we get so many opportunities to get these shots only 40 minutes from the countries largest city CBD.

I'm playing a lot with stacking in Sequator at the moment. The amount of detail is fantastic and noise reduction is great.

That looks excellent mate. Can i ask how you get that beautiful colour in the milky way, filters? Also, if you're stacking these images, do you mount your camera on a tracking mount to counteract rotation?

Got stuff ;)

No problem at all.

These were just 8 images stacked with no tracking. Just on my ball head that I didn't move for these shots, just took the shots immediately after each other. We are really blessed with such dark skies so close to a major city. I've added a little bit of saturation to the stacked image, but not too much.

I tried to shoot a pano with the Sony 85mm f1.8 last night. I didn't take my pano head as I wasn't planning to shoot with this lens, but gave it a go. I'm pretty happy with the result. There is a little bit of star movement that I think a faster shutter speed will fix, but I'll certainly be trying again with the pano head and different settings.

Sony A7iii and Sony 85mm f1.8

2 rows of 4 shots

Just to let everyone know I'm enjoying the Milky Way through your lenses.
I've been trying since mid-April but clouds, clouds, and more clouds.
So keep them coming!

And then when I come up there to shoot the Rhodies it will end up being clear skies...but near full moon...
