Hi everyone, Firstly there are some amazing pics in this section i am literally blown away by these milkyway shots, I am looking at trying this milkyway stuff out i have a FF and have just purchased a Samyang 20mm F1.8 to give it a go.
Could someone explain why both the 600 and 500 rule applies surely it would be just one or the other ?

It’s just a rule of thumb. I use the 400 rule as it gives a shorter exposure time so less chance of star trails. You will get trailing stars in most cases with the 600 rule towards the edge of the frame. Get a dark enough sky and use the 400 rule would be my advice

New camera and a return of some long lost mojo :-)

Whilst I don't recommend trying to get to grips with a new camera in the pitch dark, the results were pretty good (once I figured out how to take a picture lol)

So nice to have Milky Way season back. This shot is taken on the cliff's edge, 150 ft up from the crashing surf, in Digby County, Nova Scotia.

^^ great shot. One of the best I've seen. To my eyes the MW looks really clear and defined without being fake. Foreground and sunrise (?) give great added interest too. Well done.
