Well it is an obvious answer and since you tried to reply for me, I guess I will provide my retort.

1) 10 fps on both of them
2) 7D2 high ISO is better than the 1D4
3) 7D2 pixel density lends itself to better IQ once it is resized down, or the 1D4 is resized up
4) Dual cards
5) AF is very close
6) 7D2 has better low light acquisition and lock
7) 7D2 has lower/cleaner shadow noise in underexposed areas when shadows are pulled up
8) 7D2 is still being serviced by Canon, 1D4 is past its end of life

So factually speaking, yes the 7D2 is exactly in the same league as the 1D4 (and betters the 1D4 in some areas) technically and cost-wise, and they are often compared. Now whether one is able to actually make the 7D2 work for they want, there are only 3 things that matter there:

- individual skill in processing files, and the raw processor/tools used
- glass must be able to resolve to such a pixel density
- good copy of 7D2 vs bad

Only one of these factors are attributable to the 7D2, the other two are the responsibility of the owner.

That is the completely unbiased and unemotional comparison, but also one driven by personal experience and first hand knowledge. :)

I'll sum this up in a totally personal and subjective way, (and yet I think will still be of use to the readers. )

I own and shoot three Canon DSLR right now. 5D4, 7DII, and 1D4.
I came from the 1D bodies, and have owned and shot exclusively with the the 1D bodies from 1D2-1D4.

Today, I shoot the 7D2 FAR more than my semi retired, "back up camera" the 1D4.

It's just better, easier to use, more configurable, and has a ton of valuable features I use that the 1D4 never had. I used to say I felt the AF was a dead heat, each with their own advantages. After more time with the 7D2, I am not so sure that's true. I might lean towards the 7D2 for birding at this point.

The only obvious advantages the 1D4 has over the 7D2;
- Longer battery life (easily fixable by carrying compact LPE6 spare batteries)
- Indestructible build (I don't end to drive Cadillacs over my camera)
- The best feeling most ergonomic portrait grips available on any Canon (mitigated by the fact that I CAN'T take it off the 80% of the time I wish it wasn't there :( )

If the 1D4 were better than the 7D2, I would shoot it more than the 7D2.

I've never shot the 7d2 but wasn't a fan of the 7D. I own the 1DIV and LOVE it. It's my dream camera and it just does not let me down. I have multiple bodies and my 1D4/1Ds3 are my current combo primary.

The 1dMKIV is 10 years old which is ancient technology wise.I personally wouldn’t even pay $800 for one.

I didn't so I hope that makes you happy.

Your impression of people's deliverables from a 1d4 doesn't say anything about the 1d4 itself. It is a great camera, but yes it is old now.

I've seen less than stellar images from newer bodies like the 7d2, but that doesn't mean the camera is bad. I know, I posted some of them. :)

I'll take the 10 year old technology no problem. Some of us aren't pros and aren't going to spend 5 or 6k on a camera. Every one of my 1D's have been purchased used at a fraction of the new cost.

I believe my wait will be shorter for the 1DXII since so many people seem to be jumping on the mirrorless bandwagon. Should be plenty of obsolete pro dslr's on the market in a couple years. :-)

Anybody spending $5k to $6K for a new Canon DSLR camera should probably also buy those bridges I keep hearing about that are for sale cheap on the coasts. They are getting scammed! :)

For the under $800 I paid for this camera plus a extra battery (3 total) and a RRS L bracket even keeping this camera a few years with it's low shutter count I believe I can recoup most of money back when it's time to sell. A little more action practice.

Oh don’t take it personally,it’s just there a few folks around here that still shoot them and I’m never impressed with their work.If it works for you then that’s all that matters.

Little rich coming from a guy who's gallery consists of a plane and eight shots of the same car, just in different colours.

i too own the 7D2 and 1D4. for me, the deal breaker between the two cameras is the loud shutter of the 1D4. (yes, i primarily shoot wildlife).

.
Scammed? . Really?

Believe it or not, a $6,000 Canon DSLR may just be the best choice for some people.

My friend, for example, recently bought a new 1DX2.

He is familiar with Canon and has all Canon lenses, and certainly isn't going to change brands and have to learn a new menu system. . Heck, he already struggles to use the easy Canon menus because he is not good at all with learning new-to-him technology.

He has all the money in the world, so he couldn't care less if a camera costs him $1,000, $5,000, $10,000, or $20,000. . Cost just doesn't matter at all. . He just wants something he can pick up and start using without needing to figure out anything new.

I don't think he got scammed at all. . He paid an insignificant amount of money (to him) for the product that fit his needs and desires best.

.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".
