highly recommended.

Best AF for a third party lens, very quick, fairly sharp everywhere (on par with the 12-24 IMO), and f2.8 gets the job done. It's a very utilitarian lens, nothing flashy about it. In many ways, it's like the 12-24 optics wise, sharp, smallish for what it offers, no cool sunstars either, just faster aperture and different focal lengths.

now i'm thinking of just getting the 24-105. :) A bit wider and longer. and it's one of the sharpest too

So from SAR (external link) there is a post reporting that Sony's market share went up to 24%.

QUOTED IMAGE

IIRC Nikon were around the same so I think it would probably be safe to say Sony are now number 2 and have overtaken Nikon :D

EDIT:

Ok I just had a quick look and I'm not sure where those figures come from. The post below is from last year and contradicts the SAR post

QUOTED IMAGE

I think the figures SAR reports are Japan only.

The latest SAR report is straight from Sony's investor relations slide deck so its safe to assume that its accurate

it's also very good, and if you can make peace with F4, it's pretty sharp everywhere wide open.

SE asia + f4 = suicidal :p

I like the diminutive size of my FE 55 f1.8 lens, especially when compared next to my FE 85GM f1.4 lens. ;-)a

Welcome !

Thank you. Now customizing the menu and assigning the BBF. The menu is something else but the Zeiss lenses are insanely good particularly when focusing manually. Sheer joy and the ingenuity involved in that process is incredible.

I'm sure you'll love your new Sony Renata. Mark Galer's Youtube Channel has lots of great videos on setting up your camera to suit you best.

Thank you, Gene. I've been glued to my monitor and learning as much as I can. A totally different system from Canon and my brief encounter with the Fujifilm XT-3 which I returned.
Both Zeiss lenses are incredible...mind blown.

The two reports are not apple's to apple's. One is in units sold and the other is revenue in bln yen.

Makes sense that Sony could have 13.3 of the market by unit sales and 24% by revenue. Sony's product mix has a higher proportion of high margin products (FF mirrorless, RX cameras, etc.).

The investor relations report reflects global market share.

aww man thats a bummer. sorry to give you a boost of the event when it didnt turn out to be as what I experienced. glad to see you enjoying what was offered though. the one I went to was 5 hrs, most others were 3 hours. I was considering going to the one in salt lake city but they later changed it to 3 hrs instead of the original 5 that was advertised so I skipped out on it. did they still give out tshirts and caps at least?

I still had fun...got a hat and a couple new stickers...

Finally whittled the 4k images down to 300...I was really testing the new AF and it's pretty amazing...

Ah that makes much more sense thanks!

I'm guessing their sensor business reports separately? Because I would think their profit would be the highest if sensors was included.

I'm glad you post a few here too. When I shot my one and only white-tailed Kite, I had no idea what it was until you identified it for me. Now if I could only get a shot as nice as yours...

Thanks as always Gene, but the ISO was super jacked for this m.Kite. The light was not my friend and I was hoping for flight. Still I got to see one
and that's OK with me.
