Today I visited my local camera shops for coffee and chat time. The GFX100 seems to be quite a topic but so very few people are pre ordering so far today.

My most interesting moment today was to discover the CDN price of $4699 for a Sony A9. I was tempted to trade in all of my fuji gear and 5dmk3 and pay extra :)

I took a trip to the pier. I was frustrated that the nice clouds all left long before sunset, but I decided to stick it out and try for some other images.

I also decided to process this image in B&W. Which does everyone prefer?

This one is from that desert trip a few weeks back. Wasn't too excited about it at first but after converting it and what not I think it's kinda cool. I like how the contours of the tent kinda match those of the mountain...kinda ;-)a

Got the Godox V1-S today. It's hard to get excited about a speedlight, but this one is pretty cool. The round head should presumably lead to softer fall off at the edges...here's

quick test of a bounced bare flash. It works but not sure its really better than a rectangular frensel head for bounce flash. I'm sure its better if you fire the bare flash off camera, or perhaps straight on with the camera mounted on the body...but I don't really shoot that way.

I did some quick and dirty power comparisons between the V1 and the 860II. Both have similar output firing at full power, but after firing a sequence of full power blasts, the 860II would start to fall behind in cycling so there's an upside there. This V1-S has a massive battery that literally takes up the full width of the speedlight's body. (There's a hole that goes from one side to the other when you take the battery out).

The built-in magmod is reason enough to upgrade IMO as its one less thing to jack with in the field. I thought that this thing came with some of the modifiers, but I guess not. If you want those modifiers, be ready to spend an extra 60 bucks for the accessory kit. I'm getting it mainly for the gel holder and gels, but there's a dome head that should act like a mini lightsphere...a bounce card, and some barn doors you can use the flag the light like the black foamie thingie method.

love the idea of circle head, rectangle mods are always a bit fiddly when it comes to mods

If your current gear is not making you happy jump in and make the switch. I wish I had a bit more cash on hand and could have gotten the A9 especially with the price cut. It is so fast to shoot with, it is a really amazing camera. That said, my A7III is awesome too. I needed the 100-400 lens for distance so I could not get both that and the A9. I traded all my old gear in to cover the body cost and had the $$ saved for the lens. I am happier than ever with my Sony. The people I shoot noticed a change in quality since I moved to the A7 over my old Canon setup and I get constant complements.

The fact it’s $10k is probably why people aren’t rushing to pre-order. Who needs a $10k camera?

I have been a "fantastic" customer to many of my local camera shops. It's almost like the TV show "Cheers" when I stop by :)

Every time I visit it's great talking to many of them as they never push sales. Just yesterday I decided to buy another camera bag just to lug my camera/70-200 combo. They dissuade me telling me I should NOT buy it LOL!!

All of them say what percentage of customers requires 100MP. Extremely low percentage of the customer base wants or requires 100MP. Anyhow all of them agree the purpose of spending $15000CDN (including tax) on a 100MP camera is luxurious.

5fps and 3lbs camera with IBIS sounds like a beast. In reality I think Fuji specifically built that camera for Pro's only if you analyze the form factor of this camera. It's a beast camera with beast features for Commercial photogs at a much cheaper price than Hassie.

I use to own a 1dmk3 and it was a substantial sized body. The GFX100 is in that category vs the current Canon 1dxmk2. I know this is a Sony thread but I think many well seasoned guys here are familiar with gear in general.

The Sony guys have an A6400/6500 form factor and if a loyal Fuji user demanded more sensor performance they can buy into the A7/A9 series using the same lens. I shoot Fuji and I would LOVE to have the "next level" in performance in larger sensor. The worthy next level in universal application is the GFX100 as the GFX50 more niche with slower AF and meant for very specific application for static subjects.

Very interesting times for the mirrorless world. Day by day all manufacturers are working hard in the R&D department. We are benefiting from this fierce competition.

A $10,000 100MP camera would entail a whole lot more additional expenses for me. New powerful PC, massive storage upgrade, new lenses, new beefier tripod and BH, and a new gym membership to grow the requisite weightlifting muscles. :p

Maybe I’m just missing the point but it just doesn’t do anything for me at all. I have never looked at my 42MP image and wished I had over double the resolution. I suppose it opens up a whole new world of crop-ability but it will also bring a whole new level of early diffraction. All that said if the a7rIV has 100mp I’ll likely want it (unless it’s $10k!)

I'm kind of feeling the same way in respect to MPIX, I think the the current A7R3 is where I would like to be interns of overall resolution, what I would like to see is a A9 series camera with the A7R3 resolution. I really don't want to go back to a body that is the size of the Canon 1 series, I shot with those bodies long enough to know that I'm well past that and don't plan to go back.

I had to think long and hard about investing in the a9...more than double that is hard to choke down...add in expensive lenses and it's a lot too far out of my realm of reality. I would rather have the 400 2.8...
