May 27, 2019 13:02 | #5132 strikes me odd how many locos usa operators like to slap on their trains running the prairies. saw one yesterday hauling coal? in north eastern New Mexico with 7 locomotives on it. CP and CN rail in Canada run 3 or maybe 4 at most on their mountain trains haha Usually 2 up front and one in the middle or back

Are they 2 1/2 mile long trains? If not, that might be the reason.

A lot of times, as in the photo above, the locomotives are being re-positioned. Only the first three on the above train were actually running while the rest were "dead heading" back to a larger terminal where the power is needed. Trust me, railroads don't run any more power than necessary to keep fuel costs and equipment running costs under control. Fuji XT-2, XT-3, Sony A1, A7RIV, A9, and an OM-1

If you do not mind me asking, how do you know only the first three engines are running? Charles

You will love this shot for years to come..... I have others of him just watching trains. It is really special to me that he actually enjoys it. And I had nothing to do with it. From 6 months old and driving him to daycare we had to pass over NJ Transit twice and pass 3 stations. We would easily get held up by 1 train and see atleast 1 or 2 more just in our short drive. He eventually started to put things together by 9 months old with the preemptive white signal lights at crossings. He knew if they were flashing a train was coming. He would just grunt or make ooohhs and ahhhhss and make whiney noises and point. I eventually figured out what he was doing it. He knew to look up the tracks by one station to look for the headlights of the AM rush hour trains. His mother hated that he took a liking to trains so early. He uses my old rebel xt to take pictures but it's kinda crapped out so i may see if he can hold my old 40d with kit lens. |Canon 80D|40D backup|24-105 F4/L|Sigma 70-200 F/2.8|Sigma 150-500 C|
