Thanks Richard,

At only 6 inches or so in length they are sometimes easy to miss.

But when they forget about you as you lay on the sand and come real close it is something else.

Well, summer has come to the Sonoran Desert. It is supposed to hit 112 degrees F today! So, I'm staying inside looking at some from the vault. Here's a Cactus Wren with a bit of an attitude...

Very nice, Shalu. He appears to be singing at the top of his lungs.

Thank you, Mike!

Nice shot, Mike! I haven't seen an adult cowbird yet, or maybe I wasn't paying attention thinking they were blackbirds. I have seen a big cowbird juvenile being fed by a much smaller song sparrow "mom".

Nice shot, Tom. We're supposed to hit 105 F today, in the central San Joaquin valley. Seven degrees cooler than you doesn't sound like much, but it really is. The few times we hit 112-115 F each year, everyone pretty much stays indoors all day. I'm going to brave the heat today and give it a few hours this afternoon. Hopefully they don't have to scrape me up with a giant spatula. :p

Nice white-crowned shot, Shalu. For some reason, cowbirds are one of my least favorite species. I guess it's because they are such freeloaders. They get over 200 other species of birds to raise their young for them while they are off partying. :p
