It would be nice to have a new moon/plane/Geo location app that tells me when and where to shoot from given a general location near me at a given time.

Great shot!!!!

How is it possible for you to know what the flight is, and where it is going??

Flightaware.com

If I put in my local airport, I can watch all the air traffic in/out of the airport plus it shows me the flight numbers, aircraft type, destination, etc.

But one doesn't know flight plans, ie the path the planes will take. That is all info not deployed to the public.

So again, it is easy to see flights around an airport, but it takes a bit of experience to know what flights will pass high enough from a particular vantage point that puts them between you and the moon. There isn't an app that helps with that. The photographer has to have their key spots scoped out, have the weather cooperate, have the moon at a certain trajectory, then wait for the flights that will possibly the line of sight between camera and moon.

Keep that under your breath and get it developed. :)

Thanks Charles! I use the FlightRadar24 app, which tracks aircraft in real time.

Cheers,

I don't know about Australia, but there are several tools here in the USA.

- Flightaware.com will show flights over an area of a map
- Flightradar24 is a phone app
- Planefinder.net
- I think Siri on iPhones will tell you if you ask it what planes are overhead
- I built a Stratux receiver that gets the ADSB information

Mike, your cropped result is awesome, as is Tareq's, I love your own results from stacking. My single frame shot looks like a kid took the shot with a point and shoot after seeing each of yours.

I am not sure if you are familiar with Nik filters, but they have a few that work very well for popping out details and I took the liberty of taking your cropped result from earlier and running a couple of filters on it. These filters used to be free for download, they might still be. The noise that is seen here from the filters can be easily removed, I just didn't do it.

I hope you don't mind, if you do, I can remove this post.

A little late getting back to the party, but no, I don't mind. I am well familiar with NIK! I have the old free plugins for LR for many years now.

Thanks for your comment! I am more photographer than astronomer really.... and I have to admit, I prefer my own processing that I did, but I really appreciate your input!

Cheers

Mike

Yesterday as I was outside I heard a jet flying over my little town, I got out my phone and opened FlightRadar24, found 2 jets on FlightRadar although I only heard one. The one I clicked on which I think was the closest which had N/A and N/A for departure and arrival airports.

Bummer! It did show the type of jet but now I do not remember what that was.

Keep in mind that, in the USA, some of the information may be blocked (tail #, maybe other information) for private and corporate aircraft. That doesn't address your post other to mention one possible reason for the "N/A".
