Thanks, Mike, Yes I guess. We were also debating if this particular maneuver they were doing was that of a mated pair.

BIRD FIGHT

Yesterday morning I was taking some photos of a Snowy Egret that was wading along the edge of a small pond looking for minnows, when another Egret dived from above and attacked my egret. A furious dueling battle ensued as each Egret tried to stab the other with its long bill. The bird I’d been watching got the worst of it. It seemed to be wounded and it limped away across the water and then flew, mostly on one wing. The entire battle was over in less than a minute. I guess it was a territorial dispute.

Austral thrush (Turdus facklandii magellanicus

Momma Ruddy Duck & Young

This has been a rather sad story to observe. Each day black-crowned night-herons have picked off her babies, one by one. She tries to fight back as aggressively as she can, but the herons are too fast for her. She is no match for them. I was hoping these last two would fare better than the other little ones, but no such luck. They have disappeared from the pond too.
