There isn't anything particularly important that sets the Transcend line apart from the other brands. Prior to memory prices dropping like a rock, the Transcend line might have been slightly less expensive than say SanDisk, which likely is the most popular brand.

What is more important is your source. Do not buy from eBay and be careful about what you buy from Amazon (see https://petapixel.com …counterfeit-memory-cards/ (external link)). There are many counterfeit cards in the marketplace. Personally I suggest BestBuy for purchasing SanDisk. If you want to buy Transcend, then I suggest B&H (see https://www.bhphotovideo.com …d/4291132620/N/4294255798 (external link)). They also carry Sandisk, as well as many others.

In summary, I'd buy either based on price but only after making sure I have a reliable source.

I've been using the higher end Transcend sdxc cards for about five years now. I've got 32 cards in 32gb (for audio recorders), 64gb (still photography), and 128gb (video recording) I've found them completely reliable.

They're probably less likely to be counterfeited than Sandisk.

I was a HUGE fan of Transcend CompactFlash cards in my 5D2/5D3 days - had dozens of cards for weddings - never had any issues!

I used Transcend memory cards for years because of their value, in the range of 16-32Gb. They still work, but serve as extra memory cards on trips.

Transcend used to have higher end cards that were SLC, single bit per cell, along with built in error detection and correction. Those cards are very reliable. These days I don't think they make them. They're good standard quality cards. I tend to buy Sandisk Ultra these days.

I use this software (external link) to test my memory cards every six months or so.

Have you (or anybody else reading this) used that software to test a counterfeit card? If so, I'd be interested in hearing whether it found any problems.

for memory cards i'd choose my transcend over my lexar every day...i hate the lexars, they constantly have issues with the protection switch...i had one just break off, but in the protect mode, so i couldn't take any more shots...transcend is what i used to use, and it was great...i fell for the BS of using better memory cards, and it has been horrible

Most of the software to detect a counterfeit card checks the data size of the card and the read/write speed. Differences between advertised storage capacities and reported capacities suggest that the device is either defective or counterfeit. Two "freebies" that come to mind are

https://www.softpedia.com …scellaneous/H2testw.shtml (external link)

and

https://www.rmprepusb.com …e-usb-flash-memory-drives (external link)

The 1st one listed (H2testw) is likely to be the more common utility I have seen used, based on these forums. Unfortunetly, since the program writes and fills the drive completely, the program can be very slow.

I personally have never had the need to use either as I buy from reputable sources, usually Best Buy.

I have 6 or more Transcend cards, as well as one of their SSDs.

Never had a problem, although I'll be the first admit that the CF cards
don't see the usage I'd like to put on them.

Yes, the Transcend brand is reliable in my experience.

2 16Gb, 2 8GB, and five 2 GB cards. No problems with any of them.
Transcend memory modules in my previous computer build, also.

My cards are a few years old, so as mentioned, quality control may be different now.
Running Windows10 on a Transcend-branded SSD now, no troubles.
YMMV.

I also have a question, does the quality of memory chip have any effect on recording quality of images.

For example if i use a card with the highest quality from transcend or sandisk or lexar is it going to have better memory chips than the lower spec cards and will this affect the end image in anyway...

sorry if this a silly question...

No - there is no impact on image quality. The quality of the cards are related to speed (how fast you can read and write the pictures), to their reliability (failure) and the underlying technology (which are linked with the first two points).

That's a 64 GB card. You might consider getting (2) 32 GB cards instead of a single 64. It would be virtually the same price, less than $1 more. Some people like the versatility of two cards, swapping them depending on what they are doing. Also, a 64GB card may make you image counter on the camera (which we don't know) display "999" for quite an extensive period of time. See a thread I started at https://photography-on-the.net …showthread.php?p=18859577 for more details.

I also note that an abundance of your forum images are trains, many of which seem to be taken in India. Are you having these cards shipped to India? If so double check the shipping cost.
