Pretty little Prairie Kingsnake I saw while mowing. I released it in a thicket behind the house, was gonna try for some pictures of it on the ground, but those little buggers can disappear in a heartbeat.

Thanks for the kind words. I was as excited to see it as it was apparently unexcited to see me :-)
First wild rattle snake that I remember.

I'm not sure what kind it is. It was seen near Miramar Marine Air Station, a little north of San Diego in California.
Wikipedia suggests Massasauga rattlers live elsewhere: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massasauga (external link)

Maybe a Southern Pacific Rattlesnake?

Oh, I saw you are from the northeast US, and just assumed it was taken there.

I'm sorry. In ths case, NE = Nebraska, but the snake you mention occurs here too, locally called "prairie rattlesnake"

what a shot. Seems to be pretty hard to spot in the wild.

Thanks for the kind words. It was sunning itself on some concrete, so it was much easier to spot.

I visited the Oklahoma City Rattlesnake Museum yesterday. The owners were very tolerant of me taking photos. I was using my 90mm macro, probably should have had my 18-55 lens. First picture is a Western Diamondback, second is a Saharan Horned Viper. They have representatives of all the United States venomous snakes (except Corals), and several others from around the world. Here's a link to their facebook page: https://www.facebook.com …museumokc/?epa=SEARCH_BOX (external link)
