George Bush Park (also known as the infamous Barker Reservoir, from Harvey days) is not far from my house (which did not flood). Even a light rain shower produces lots of standing water in the low spots and road side ditches, attracting a variety of wading birds. Due to several health issues, I can no longer drive to the Lower Rio Grande Valley or even High Island. I missed Quintana this April for the first time in 20 years. Bush park provides plenty of nearby opportunities for bird photography. Little Blue Herons are a favorite of mine. MIKEIVAN

In the 'old days' we used to bait them to get the 'catch' shot, but now that is banned. They have an iconic call that can be heard all along the rivers. These were actually shot using the Olympus O-MD E-M1X on loan to me from Oly for evalutaions. I've been a Canon shooter for years, but I must admit the light weight was nice and the tracking was good on these large, fairly slow flying birds. Shot with the 300mm on the 4/3 sensor camera. Lens is equivalent to a 600mm. More on that later, but for now ... enjoy my BIF. Buddy4344
