Dover Castle. UK.

Mind boggling construction by master craftsmen with the crude tools of yesteryear.

Central to the UK's defence in WW1 and WW2 - when it saw plenty of action!

Castel Sant'Elmo, Naples. More of a medieval fortress than a castle, but worth a visit nonetheless. Well preserved and an intriguing construction. I didn't have time to research it properly when I was there, but it's on my To Do list.

Keep 'em coming Capn Jack - you must have a large archive of interesting pics.

The walls of this castle look like concrete?

Thanks for the kind words.

Close in, one can see they are stone walls, completed in the 16th century. Very impressive work.

I'm lucky that my work takes me to lots of interesting places. Usually, I only have a few hours to see anything, but I try to make the most of those few hours. I just got back from a trip, and out on another very soon, so much more coming!

A bit of a contrast here with the Late Middle Ages/ Early Modern Period walls and all the Contemporary objects, including the surfer dude.

Now that's a proper castle, complete with it's famous 'wonky tower', built by a Marcher Lord who was terrified of a certain welsh warrior, Llewellyn ap Gruffyd. Medieval history at its best!

Very nice. Again heaps of history.
Any photos of the sundial? Or adding to scientific instruments?

Thanks Richard and all who liked my pictures.
I’ll see if I have got anymore from that location sometime.
We didn’t see the ghost on that occasion because it only comes out at night.
Regarding the scientific instruments, I will get around to that soon - I hope. I will probably rephotograph a few.
I have got so many GBs of files to trawl through (most of it crap or abandoned). Fortunately I have most of it filed in year or location order, but it is the sub-folders that get me distracted.
I have been trying to edit a couple for ‘Vintage Steam’ I will put up soon, but I always find something that needs more work to be done (that sounds like an excuse I seemed to end most of my work reports with):-)
Regards

Maybe if a big house is called a castle it will qualify for a massive taxation reduction and get heritage funding into the bargain.
Sell a few old used clothes from a cupboard under the stairs, call it a charity shop and pay no rates or taxes at all.:-)
