This shot was taken in May 2007 on the cliffs above Arromanches-les-Bains, France. There are more at nearby Longues-sur-Mer too. Google these Normandy D-day beaches and you will find a ton of info. What I find interesting is that all the gun batteries were heavily shelled from battleships and bombed from the air before the landings. Despite this, they remained operative though with diminished effectiveness. Apparently the bombardment cut underground cables and disabled their aiming and ranging systems - so they had to be operated manually.

Same hospital like before. It seemed to me that this painting stands as a symbol for the sadness of demolition.
