Thanks! Like many other things, it was right place/right time. I had some unexpected free time at a peptide meeting!

Here's a Golden-mantled Ground Squirrel pic from a couple weeks ago, up on the Beartooth Highway along the Montana / Wyoming border.

People feed them there, so it's real easy to get close. . In fact, as I was hunched over, kneeling, waiting for the best timing for the shot, I could feel others climbing up and over my back and shoulders, as if I was just one of the boulders that they scramble around on.

I tried to make it an environmental portrait by stopping down to f13 and getting the mountains in the background. . Wish I would've had time to bracket the apertures and take some at f16 and others at f11, but these Ground Squirrels are so quick and jittery that they only pause for a brief second, and then they're off! . So no time to experiment with sundry different settings.

6D, 100-400 v2 @100mm, near MFD at about 30" away, f13, 400ISO, 1/640th of a second

.

Appears to be a tree squirrel. . And not just because he's in a tree!
