My first attempt ever at 1:1 macro. Does anyone know how to change the aperture when doing a reverse lens?

I don't know what gear you have, but some folks find they can set the aperture of the lens, then hold down the DOF preview button, and then remove the lens from the body. That can preserve the aperture setting. Maybe that will work for you. The key is to remove the lens while the camera is still on and while holding the DOF preview button. As soon as the camera is off or the button is released the blades pop back open. This is what I did back when I first got into macro! Flickr: https://www.flickr.com/photos/thomasbarbin/

I shot this moth horizontally but framed it for a vertical composition (I turned the shot 90 degrees in post). Easier than trying to hold the camera in portrait orientation.Tech Specs: Canon 80D (F11, 1/250, ISO 100) + a Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens (under 2x) + a diffused MT-26EX-RT with a Kaiser adjustable flash shoe on the "A" head (the fill for this shot), E-TTL metering, -1/3 FEC, second curtain sync). This is a single, uncropped, frame taken hand held. I'm holding on to the leaf with my left hand, and resting the lens on that same hand to keep the scene steady. This is the first image I've processed using Topaz Labs Detail AI and Adjust AI plugins. ![]() Amazing pic and cool moth. Great lighting too. I have gone away from the 1:1 ration and trying 1:4 and then cropped. So quite a bit of post processing to get rid of noise …. maybe a bit too much sharpening. What say you ? Great composition and detail! It is nice to see what micro 4/3 can do. Why 1:4 and cropping? Is this to gain working distance? Canon R5 and R7, assorted Canon lenses, Sony RX100, Pentax Spotmatic F

The blighters keep moving and I cannot get the DOF I want in 1 shot so need to go for stacking. And since they move, stacking does not work well. I want to master 1:1 but feel if I can get 1:4, and have some semi usable images, I then move to 1:3,1:2 and then 1:1. Illegitimi non carborundum --- as they said in Roman times ---
