Well, if the 100-400 MKII has any dust-pump inclinations, mine will be pretty full after last weekend.

My son and I went on a nice 4-mile hike in the Angeles NF near the Crystal Lake Recreation Area. The wildflowers were in profuse bloom, the sun was blazing and various creatures were enjoying themselves. Here are some photos:

1. Variable checkerspot (Euphydryas chalcedona):

2. Hedgerow Hairstreak (Satyrium saepium):

3. Common side-blotched lizard ( Uta stansburiana):

4. Western Whiptail ( Cnemidophorus tigris):

5. Splendid Woodland-gilia (Saltugilia splendens):

Gear List

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

All these are great, but that checkerspot is gorgeous!

Since buying this lens I hardly use my Canon 300mm 2.8 ii usm lens, may have to make a decision on this soon as its a shame for it to be locked away.

Canon R6 II, RF 800mm.
I like what I like.

One more from the same walk, Paul!

Not the greatest shot.. the sunlight was pretty harsh, but it was my first sighting of a cool species.

Rocky Mountain Clearwing (Hemaris thetis):

This is one of 4 species of hummingbird moths in the genus Hemaris that are native to North and South America.
