unclejohn Goldmember ![]() More info | Interesting . . . I can't say anything technical because all you studio shooters are way above my skill level. But I think it has a psychological problem: the subject looks uncomfortable. As if he felt obliged to pose so that the portrait would turn out to be "appropriate." If he would have felt at ease, you might have caught some of his personality in the photo. Which, hopefully, would have projected an image of some strength. I don't know anything. But I know other things.

Funny thing...this fits his personality almost to a T...I have known him for quite a while and this is just him...and I have others with a crack of a smile but they actually look more uncomfortable for him... unclejohn Goldmember ![]() More info Post edited over 3 years ago by unclejohn. | Jul 16, 2019 08:38 | #5304 Pistola's daughters ![]() I almost never do anything to try to influence how my subjects pose. Thre are some exceptions . . . On this occasion I was at the front desk with two others talking about literature, in my case haiku poetry. One of the others was droning on and on and on. These girls were starting to make faces like, "Will he ever stop?" I thought that it was improper, but what could I do without hurting anybody's feelings? I stuck my tongue out at them. That broke the bad spell. My long-winded friend never did figure out why the students all of a sudden started laughing in the middle of his serious presentation.IMAGE LINK: https://photos.smugmug.com …/DSC05275-X2.jpg&lb=1&s=A ![]() I don't know anything. unclejohn Goldmember ![]() More info | The reason I posted these was in a hope that somebody would tell us of their ideas of photography as an art (as opposed to a craft). Nobody take the bait? I don't know anything. But I know other things.
