Lol. Sony has two year life cycles, so you kind of have to expect some early obsolescence when you buy cameras.

The flip side is you can wait a little bit and get nice discounts on stuff... Just don't get upset when the new model is released 2 months later

Well I got bit hard on the 6300 then 6 months later the 6500..... so it was a conscious decision to not upgrade the R2. I committed myself to wait at least for a 'new' sensor. Now hopefully I am on the every other or every 3rd version from here out. I think the R9 / A7r4 combo will last me a few generations now..... pray......hopefully.

I've been considering an a6400 for the newer focusing tech to use along with my FE 100-400 for birding. And then along came the a7r4. -?

I fully understand and am glad I didn't add the a6400.
But there just might could possibly in my dreams be a mini-a9 coming. I have to hold out just a little longer.
THEN A7Riv+mini-a9....what dreams are made of :)

Never even (at all) noticed the distortion. What is wrong with me?

Maybe I have seen too many whisky bottles. There was a lot right with that photo, just the lens was not cooperating it seems. You learn by experimenting more than just reading. Which means I should get back behind my camera.

Yesterday evening's project right before going to work. Poof found them trapped. Police/fire department uninterested. Wildlife agency only an answering machine.
Never touched nor held one before...kind of exciting.

Romaine lettuce salad with julienned carrots, chopped hard-boiled eggs, and dry salami tossed in an oil and vinegar dressing. Salt and pepper to taste.

This was a casual shot of my dinner salad tonight. I didn't take the time to balance the position of ingredients, shapes, colors, etc.

I know that we have discussed a bit the Peak Design tripod...and I was looking at it again this week...trying to make up my mind...and while watching a video on the new A7R4 from Kai...I made up my mind...nope. He is pushing buttons on the camera and the thing is bouncing all over, it doesn't look steady at all...so...my mind is made up. I will stick with my Gitzo and RRS legs...just funny that a video on one thing, made up my mind about something else that probably wasn't intended to be in the video...

I noticed the camera bouncing around too, looked terrible. Maybe he did not have the ball tightened well. I only had brief interest in that tripod anyway, lots of much cheaper options that are only slightly larger.

I dont understand all the negative comments on this camera. It is a "NEW" sensor that is huge. I really dont think they will have a new high rez out again until spring of 21. With the Olympics next year I think this is it. I dont know what an 9R would have. Now could they release a 7Siii and a 92 before the olympics yes but with this camera and my A9 I think for bodies I am set for 3 years minimum.

Which means I can get back into lens mode next spring which will come down to tamron 17-28 or sony 16-35GM and still wanting the 85 1.8

I am fricken excited

Who cares about other peoples negativity? Your own evaluation is all that matters. I see plenty of positives with this new body.
I have 2 curiosities:

2 UHSII slots are better than 1, but what about speed writing to 2 cards at once?

5.76MP EVF is a positive but I'm curious about the quality. I have an EOSR with same EVF resolution as the A9 but the R is a better EVF IMHO, easiest to describe it as realistic, ie so close to an optical viewfinder. That's more important to me than resolution.

I'm going to start upgrading complements next year so this 35mm will probably be my last purchase for a while.

Are you doing a full rebuild?

Yep, for the most part, Only things I reused was my GPU (GTX 1080 Ti, waiting to see reviews on the 2080 Super) and one SSD, other than that, completely new system:

Hah yeah if you don't want to get burned by a new model being released shortly after you pick it up, buy it at pre-order!

A7r4 should be good enough to last awhile. I think the upgrades between mirrorless cameras each iteration going forward will be evolutionary as we've hit a point of diminishing returns. Very different from the early a7 days where there were glaring deficiencies with the cameras right out the gate.

Damn I'm jealous, always fun building a new PC! The GTX 1080 would definitely be worth keeping, especially with GPU prices.

I think my monitor would be the next thing I upgrade, would love a 144hz with GSync.

Choder I asked a similar question via PM to Jim Klasson, braniac/PhD over at DPreview, but on the a9 which only has one UHS-II..his response-
'I don't think if makes any difference if there's a card in the UHS-1 slot or not, as long as you're not trying to write to it while you write to a card in the other slot.'

So, applies to other bodies?
I know back in my EOS 5Diii days it did matter and a lot :(
