Damn I'm jealous, always fun building a new PC! The GTX 1080 would definitely be worth keeping, especially with GPU prices.

I think my monitor would be the next thing I upgrade, would love a 144hz with GSync.

Yeah..thats kind of the issue, the 1080 Ti is a superb GPU and the only thing meaningfully faster is the 2080 Ti

I went no compromise and have a Predator X27, 4k, 120hz and 95% DCI-P3 on top of all of it, With superb color calibration out of box

Couple of weeks ago, after an evening cricket match, the sky was looking the most promising that it had for a while! Quick dash to the farm with the poppies at the entrance to the field only to find them completely rubbish....!!! The sky was okay though.

Just returned from a week long adventure in Northern Idaho and Montana with two fifteen year old boys. I was able to grab a few shots along the way. Sony A6400 + Sigma 16mm f/1.4

My new build with no graphics card was in the neighborhood of $2600-2700

My monitor cost me $1600

Note, my system has a lot of overkill to it that you dont "need" i simply "wanted" like the absurd number of RGB everything

Shot this using the UWA lens on my S10 5G. IQ is pretty dang good IMO, but hit the limits of the DR in the bottom left when I started messing with the file in LR mobile. Interesting thing is that when I shot this, a little dot popped up that helped me level the shot. I'm assuming it uses the phones accelerometer. Smartphone photography has so much upside.

Really depends on your workload/what you intend to do with it. If you're not going to game and you pick your parts carefully, you can get a workhorse of a machine for well under $1k.

With the new Ryzen CPUs, you can get a lot of cores/threads for not a lot of money ($200 for 6c/12t, 8c/16t starting at $330, etc), which is awesome for applications that leverage those threads (like video encoding, etc).

If you're going to be gaming, a significant portion of the budget is typically spent on the video card. $300-600 is not unusual. If you're not going to game, this is overkill; even if you're using programs that use the GPU (some Adobe programs use the GPU to speed up pic rendering, which is certainly nice) you can get away with much spending less (and with a Ryzen, it would be needed as they don't have video on-chip).

Add <$200 for memory, <$200 for a mother board, ~$100 for a good power supply, whatever your heart desires for hard/solid state drives, and pick a case that strikes a good balance for you in terms of looks, storage, ventilation and noise (you can get very good cases for ~$120, but you can also spend a lot more).

Oh, and another ~$100 if you need a new copy of Windows.

Bill is my name - I'm the most wanted man on my island, except I'm not on my island, of course. More's the pity.

Hmmmm, cancel my a7RIV pre-order or buy the FE 100-400 GM? That’s something on my mind lately.

yah the reason why i bought the A7III, the R3 is too much for real estate work. it slows me down in post. I'm even thinking of M43. I waiting on the next OMD-EM1 Mark 2 successor. When I was on vacation, I still thought the A7RIII setup is big.

i agree, i have the em1.2 and with its group of features i find i grab it more and more because of its size, i can fit it and 3 good lenses in a bag that carries the sony with 1. for fast action and such i still grab the oly, unfortuntaly with the release of the new weird looking oly i dont think we will see any more firware features in the em1.2
