Hmmmm, cancel my a7RIV pre-order or buy the FE 100-400 GM? That’s something on my mind lately.

What would you use the 100-400 for? If sports and wildlife, I'd upgrade the body first since you still have the a7rII since the AF system and responsiveness of that body doesn't really do the lens justice.

BUT if its for your landscape and architecture work, those longer focal lengths will bring new FOV's into your kit and that will have more of an impact to your photography.

Thank you Carlo. Looking for the lens for landscape and architecture work primarily with the occasional wildlife. I just need to weigh the pros and cons of the camera vs lens upgrade to see which addresses my current needs. For example dual card slots is big for me since I lost time when one of my memory cards failed and I lost some images from a commercial shoot. I had to go back and reshoot some images of a mission.

I was being a tourist in my own city :) Spending time with my kids walking around like tourists. I walked around the city with a pair of A73 and mounted the Gmaster 16-35 and 70-200.

This is Vancouver's famous steam clock. The other image is the 2010 Olympic cauldron.

These are moments I wish I had more megapixels. The A7r4 is very appealing to me but for my events I think the 24mp is a nice sweet spot.

I would stick with the body upgrade. You will get more use of it.

I haven't preordered yet, but the temptation will be strong when I physically go to the camera store in a couple of weeks to pick up my 200-600. I would love to have that kind of cropability for critters.

What about grabbing a used a7r3 at a good price and a 100-400 and sell the a7rii? That way you get the lens you need and also the dual card slots (and other upgrades that the r3 offers)

i agree, i have the em1.2 and with its group of features i find i grab it more and more because of its size, i can fit it and 3 good lenses in a bag that carries the sony with 1. for fast action and such i still grab the oly, unfortuntaly with the release of the new weird looking oly i dont think we will see any more firware features in the em1.2

how's the low light performance of the Em1 Mark ii? for RE, the Max ISO i'm using is 400 so i think it should be ok. I really like how cute looking that camera too.

Thanks Eddie. That's an interesting option for sure. I do prefer the improved ergonomics of the a7RIV over the III, better EVF, and the extra weather sealing.

go for broke :-P

lenses > body in general, as they hold resale better in case you change your mind. As good as the R4 is, it will absolutely take a beating in prices, and when it does, you might have scraped up enough for the upgrade. I think that's how I'm going to approach sony bodies going forward, the only issue with my logic is that my own body takes a beating as well, maybe not as bad, but still a beating. I'll probably have to shell out 1500 for the upgrade, however if I dont upgrade or delay, that's 1500 that's pushed back further and further. Be sure to check greentoe, I already got a lower offer for the Tamron 17-28, so I'm going to wait a month or so before getting that one.

Tough choice. In my case I might start with the lens and buy the body later. For instance, I may buy that 200-600 I want first, then get my camera later. The a7R II may be poor for BIF, but adequate for BJSA (birds just standing around :p). I might even grab a used a6400 with the lens so I can be even more slow about upgrading to a7R IV.

Anyway, that’s my most likely upgrade path plan. I think you can’t make a mistake in either direction though. :)

I'm in the mini a9 camp with Robert. I have the 200-600 coming but would like the super crop body. I might let the a9 go if I could get that and it performs. I would keep the R3 for FF.

I know that I might have previously mentioned that the 16-35 f/4 might be an alternative to the GM...but working on images today that were from the GM...there is less distortion from the GM compared to the f4...so for that reason...on the f/4...I am out...
I could sit up on this terraced deck and watch the sunset every night...it had a window view to the GGB...

What do these things cost I am trying to budget for a new computer

You should check out PCPartPicker, it's a website that helps you build your PC and shows compatibility. Just make sure that you get a tier 1 or 2 PSU, you can usually find the tier listings on Linus tech tips and other PC forums.

Yeah..thats kind of the issue, the 1080 Ti is a superb GPU and the only thing meaningfully faster is the 2080 Ti

I went no compromise and have a Predator X27, 4k, 120hz and 95% DCI-P3 on top of all of it, With superb color calibration out of box

I don't see it being worth upgrading each generation for CPU/GPU but I know some people do. I still have a 1070 which is holding real strong.

I'm guess you play games on it too?
