Travis we were up on Jane Bald yesterday evening, hoping for a timelapse but (as often happens in the Roan system) defeated by weather.
Nice to be at 59F in July though.
Thought of you as we made a hot drink.
Everything you see metallic there is 5 ounces. It's my lightest backpacking cook set up. Of course the water and Esbit tabs were extra weight.
Sony RX100vi at ISO 5000 :)

And the view before the fog rolled in. Viewscape via Samsung Note 9.

Really depends on your workload/what you intend to do with it. If you're not going to game and you pick your parts carefully, you can get a workhorse of a machine for well under $1k.

With the new Ryzen CPUs, you can get a lot of cores/threads for not a lot of money ($200 for 6c/12t, 8c/16t starting at $330, etc), which is awesome for applications that leverage those threads (like video encoding, etc).

If you're going to be gaming, a significant portion of the budget is typically spent on the video card. $300-600 is not unusual. If you're not going to game, this is overkill; even if you're using programs that use the GPU (some Adobe programs use the GPU to speed up pic rendering, which is certainly nice) you can get away with much spending less (and with a Ryzen, it would be needed as they don't have video on-chip).

Add <$200 for memory, <$200 for a mother board, ~$100 for a good power supply, whatever your heart desires for hard/solid state drives, and pick a case that strikes a good balance for you in terms of looks, storage, ventilation and noise (you can get very good cases for ~$120, but you can also spend a lot more).

Oh, and another ~$100 if you need a new copy of Windows.

Hmmm this is why I cant build one. Its over my head but I dont want to pay 2500 bucks for a MS Studio..... I just want a real good monitor and then something that can handle merging 9 pano photos without me walking away making dinner eating it and then coming back for the last 15 minutes of it stitching.

Hmmmm, cancel my a7RIV pre-order or buy the FE 100-400 GM? That’s something on my mind lately.

Late reply...... I think glass over camera and in the case of the 100-400gm Its a must for a sony shooter.

Some might think 8 is a little old for it to be her first...but I am not one of those that will take infants and toddlers to baseball games...they won't enjoy it...and in turn neither will you...

enjoyed using the B25...can I really bring myself to part with these two lenses...

Yeah I don't see the point in taking toddlers to games.

I've been taking my eldest to college football games since he was 4. Even then, it wasn't till he was about 6 or 7 that he really appreciated it but it was good to plant the bug early. I'm going to start taking my 5 year old this year season.

The issue with me is that football season is right in the middle of busy season for photo business...but I'm going to very specifically carve time out this year.

I know that I might have previously mentioned that the 16-35 f/4 might be an alternative to the GM...but working on images today that were from the GM...there is less distortion from the GM compared to the f4...so for that reason...on the f/4...I am out...
I could sit up on this terraced deck and watch the sunset every night...it had a window view to the GGB...

I hear ya, but it's not as complicated as it seems once you jump in. At the end of the day, you've got a motherboard and 4-5 components that plug in to it. Or you could just buy pre-built and check prices against the component list to see that you're not paying too much for the assembly.

Broke down and added a 6400 :( But it might have a purpose on the trip coming up t-36 days.
Just need to get lucky on the 200-600mm lotto.
So a6400, an excuse to play in the rain a bit with the Rok 45/1.8 Really like this lens for what it is--the weight (of course)
more than anything.

I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on the a6400's abilities to AF track since it is more akin to the a9 than any other Sony camera's focusing system at the moment.

Hope someone can answer this before I can.
It won't be until November/Conowingo before I get any serious BIF time with the 6400.
I don't think bears run fast enough to count....or do they :)
I just have to out run Poof!

Once the a7rIV is released and reports on it's AF tracking become known, that may be just the selling point I need to push me over the top to get one.

Careful Poof doesn't kick you hard in the shin first when that bear is spotted. ;-)a

I could always get Poof on her bike and have her come downhill toward me. Hill right beside the neighborhood she can hit 30mph easily, but will have to wait until
the rains end :( Currently flash flood warning from so much.

I've preferred a backlit keyboard for some time now. Here's my CORSAIR K55 shot with the FE 90 that I happened to have already on my camera.

i agree, i have the em1.2 and with its group of features i find i grab it more and more because of its size, i can fit it and 3 good lenses in a bag that carries the sony with 1. for fast action and such i still grab the oly, unfortuntaly with the release of the new weird looking oly i dont think we will see any more firware features in the em1.2

Have you seen the newest FW 3.0 from about a month ago? It updates the EM1.2 to the focus algorithm of the EM1X, supposedly improved the low ISO noise, and a few other things as well. So it seems they’re keeping it updated, at least for now. I recently updated, but haven’t really tested it out.

I agree that it’s a good complement to the Sony system. The bodies are very similar in size, but the lenses can be a lot smaller due to the smaller sensor size. The only “drawback” is more depth of field at equivalent apertures vs FF, but that shouldn’t be an issue in real estate.
