After reading, watching youtube videos, speaking to friends who are pros, like me, I decided to pull the trigger on the a7iii. I got it from Amazon on Monday. I am waiting for the Sigma adapter, but I got the kit lens 28-70, which is not great, but good enough for now. I watched 5 youtube videos to help me set up the camera and will start shooting when the adapter arrives later today. I am hoping to get a lot of mileage from this camera because I was considering the R or the RF. From handing the camera, I know it is probably as solid as the Canon bodies I own. Still using my 5DIV for pro work, but I'm retiring, so the a7iii is my birthday gift to myself for fun.

As a canon shooter I will say I’m very pleased with my A7iii.

You will get a shock in Sony colours. However you’ll get. Use to approaching the Sony files on LR. You will be shocked how you will have so much landed sharp AF.

I can't wait to try my canon glass tomorrow. The delivery was delayed until tomorrow for the Sigma adapter. I haven't gone out with the Sony yet, but will try tomorrow.

Suzy are you using adobe lightroom?

For my Sony files I slide the dehaze slider to the left (approx -10) as a starting point. This uplifts shadows and adds haze almost like a film like look. Not as film like as the current Fuji aps-c camera's. However this can soften up the image as Sony is typically very high in sharpness and contrast. Some cases I find the files harsh compared to fuji or canon.

In due time you'll demand using sony glass. adapted canon glass can really hunt especially in high backlit situations. Also seems adapted canon glass is great for slow to static subjects but nothing like native sony glass.

You will find that you should shoot sony in AF-C and use "lock hold" button to lock on AF. AF-S is terrible IMO and Canon is much better in "focus recompose". However the AF-C for Sony is very impressive.

Customize the focus/hold button. Watch some youtube videos NOW.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b3Mzaj63IAs (external link)

also watch youtube to see how to update the firmware immediately. You can use the focus point to lock on eyes (eye af) and if your subject is out of the zone you can push the customized button to lock on eyes.

It will take a while to get a hang of the sony but it's all good once you get confident.

The A7iii and 100-400 is a nice combo. Nice shots.
