No I know. I always wanted they old version but that one didn't take a 1.4 as good as this one.
Still I never owned a lens that expensive and I have owned a few. Oh well I think this one will make me happy.

Sandra, you will be very happy - it's a stellar lens. And multi-purpose for sports, cats, macro, landscape, portrait, etc!

Picked up a used copy last week, needed calibration but after a short trip to CPS all is good!

Caught this little guy in deep shadows behind the house this morning. Not bad for 1/25th shutter speed at 400mm handheld. The 1DIV and the 100-400 are a great combination.

Just got this lens from a member here! Excited to say the least. I recently tested the 400mm 5.6 over the weekend. I was impressed! Even posted a review as well as some pics. But after that post I started to see some great images here and on Jakes WOW! thread. I also started reading reviews and watching YouTube videos. The one thing mentioned here and elsewhere is how it not only rivals but even surpasses the 400mm 5.6. So the idea of getting the prime was now put on hold. But the main reason was the 4-stops of IS and the 3.5' MFD (the prime has no IS and MFD is 12'). These two things sealed it for me. Also mentions of macro, portraits, etc. convinced me this lens is more versatile than I would have ever imagined. It may become my "walk-around" lens...LOL!
