Here they are dressed as pirates for Carnival

Nikon D810 + Nikkor 70.0-200.0 mm f/2.8
ƒ/2.8 @122mm 1/250 ISO/200
SB910 used on camera but bounced off left

Before people start to note Tom's right eye, I would have to add that my boy suffers from a condition called NF1 and has a tumor in the optic nerve behind said eye that caused it to bulge out a little and sadly he has lost his eyesight from it. He has undergone chemotherapy and retained eyesight from his other eye, which also has a small tumor at the same place but 'till now controlled and has shrunk. Thomas is still being monitored by MRI. Last scan showed another growth in the brain, another scan follows on the 20th of this month from which the doctors will determine how to proceed. This is all very hard for us as parents. We've lost our faith from all that has happened to our poor boy.

AMY

Amy, now soon to be 5 next 24th of April is a happy, cheerful child. She is sometimes jealous of the attention that her brother gets due to his condition. It is very hard for a small child to understand why people keep asking about her brother and give her very little notice. We try to rectify that as parents of course by giving her special time, myself by drawing with her which she likes a lot and her mom reads to her in bed before she sleeps. In this shot she is playing with leaves at our last visit to Hyde park, London.

Happiness is knowing how to enjoy the simpler things.

Some thoughts behind this shot;
Chose f/5.6 because this was a candid shot and thus difficult to keep Tom in focus with all his sudden movements. A wider dof gives more chance of nailing focus. 1/400 is the best compromise for that 50mm focal length so that again I wouldn’t get camera shake, still get a bit of blur from wind blown leaves and keeping ISO to a respectable low that my camera can handle to keep things sharp and noise free.

Tom's medical condition notwithstanding, your pictures show two happy children with caring parents. Very best wishes for the scan on the 20th pointing the way to an excellent outcome.

Beautiful photos of couple lovely kids.

Twins are in my family and I know first hand the strong and uncanny interaction they have between each other.

I do trust you see some positive outcomes here.
Tough & testing times.
All the very best.

Richard

As an update to my son's health, we have undergone several MRI scans on his brain together with blood checks since my last post, and although the tumor is still present the specialists informed us that it is not affecting him in any damaging way. The tumor is in the area of the pituitary gland.

The pituitary gland is a tiny organ, the size of a pea, found at the base of the brain. As the “master gland” of the body, it produces many hormones that travel throughout the body, directing certain processes or stimulating other glands to produce other hormones. The pituitary gland makes or stores many different hormones. The following hormones are made in the anterior (front part) of the pituitary gland:

PROLACTIN - This hormone stimulates breast milk production after childbirth. It is also produced in males but of course not used.
GROWTH HORMONE (GH) - This hormone stimulates growth in childhood and plays a role in maintaining healthy muscles and bone and well-being in adults.
ADRENOCORTICOTROPIN (ACTH) - This hormone stimulates the production of cortisol by the adrenal glands. Cortisol helps maintain blood pressure and blood glucose (sugar) levels.
THYROID-STIMULATING HORMONE (TSH) - This hormone stimulates the thyroid gland to produce thyroid hormones, which regulate the body's metabolism, energy balance, growth, and nervous system activity.
LUTEINIZING HORMONE (LH) - This hormone stimulates testosterone production in men and egg release (ovulation) in women
FOLLICLE-STIMULATING HORMONE (FSH) - This hormone promotes sperm production in men and stimulates the ovaries to produce estrogen and develop eggs in women.

The following hormones are stored in the posterior (back part) of the pituitary gland:

ANTIDIURETIC HORMONE (ADH) - This hormone regulates water balance in the body and sodium levels in the blood.
OXYTOCIN - This hormone causes milk to flow from the breasts in breastfeeding women, and may also help labor to progress.
