Kerel. River Thames. UK.

Taken with the 100-400L mkII +1.4mkIII extender at close range.
This picture consists of four images stitched in Photoshop CS6 and the resulting high res image cropped at 1600x470px to comply with the forum image size.

HMS Westminster. River Thames, Northfleet. August-08-2019. 2000hrs. Slipping by silently in darkness toward the Thames estuary and the North Sea or English Channel.
The light was fading rapidly.
The two shots are from the same file.
The top picture taken in the existing lighting conditions at the time.
The lower picture recovered with a little tweak in Photoshop CS6.
This is begging the question - Should I have left the original and not tweaked it?-?
Have I demonstrated the ability of the 100-400 L mkII to focus in near darkness?-?

I like the top one better. It's like the viewer is standing beside you watching. Your description is very evocative.

Thanks Annie. I have posted both on marinetraffic.com - we will see if they reject one or accept both. They can hardly reject it on differentiation - can they?:-)
PS I have clicked a few stars for you on that site.

Thanks, Ray, I have a few photos up there. They reject as many of mine as they accept though. I think they consider some photos taken by photographers as being a bit 'arty'!!! When the Ocean GreatWhite came down the sound at the beginning of the year I was out in gale force winds at 3 am taking photos of her coming down the Sound. She was all lit up but they didn't like it as it was dark and you couldn't quite make out the full profile, so I don't think they will accept your dark one but the noisy one will be fine!!! I'll go and search yours out.

They have refused all of mine in the past, so I've given up.

Don't give up, Derek. Eventually they will accept one/some. I do wonder, though, if there is an old boy network as some crap stuff gets accepted that doesn't appear to obey the 'rules'. Mine seem to be under an awful lot of scrutiny.

Hi Annie
As we said, picture rejected.:-(
Reason - Poor exposure!-?
Anyway, I’ve got 3,360 others accepted.:-)
Quite simple really, don’t let your artistic imagination run away with you and keep the horizon level.:-)

Hi Derek, as Annie says, don’t give up.
Try again, you’ll soon get the hang of it.:-)

That was predictable! And yet all the responses you got here was for the dark one. Yes, Derek, keep at it. I still get disappointed when they reject mine but I have to grow up and get used to it! Remember, it's the photos that follow the rules that get picked - not the best photos.

Ray, I'll check yours out in the dark winter months when there is no shinty and no weddings!
