Solid week of just using this lens and it really is a great one to walk around with, and beyond. Here's a 4 shot HDR from Triple Falls (https://en.wikipedia.org …lls_(DuPont_State_Forest) (external link)) from close range. Fun hike and fun times.

Canon has had my lens now for longer than the usual CPS turn-around time. They acknowledge an issue, but have not yet determined what that is.

Hopefully back with a report this week. I am guessing IS not performing to spec.

The Scottage overlooking sunrise on Moraine Park in Rocky Mountain NP. The "Scottage" was built by my great grandfather in 1898. 24 vertical shots.

I posted this elsewhere, but have to say I'm really pleased with this lens. This looks quite sharp to my eye.

Will do. Spoke with them today and sending it in tomorrow. They agree should be noticeably sharper than EF24-105 - especially Version 1. Unfortunately they usually say "inspected and brought to manufacturer's spec". I asked specifically if they find something to tell me what it was such as IS not performing properly or element off center or....

Shall see in a week.

Well, Canon determined it needed new lens assembly and USM motor!!(what else is there?) Took quite a bit of back and forth but I convinced them to exchange for a new lens. This one has NO issues I can discern. The test for me (for me!!) was handheld, low light, 1/100th and comparing to my EF 254-105 (or 70-300 or....?)

I now wind up with an extra box with slightly bumped corner, new hood and lens case, packing. I know some folks wnat and need these things so PM me if any interest.

Tomorrow I can actually go out and shoot without thinking about the gear. Let's see how the images come out. I can tell you what I see on the LCD is outstanding. What I develop so far is not as good. Next focus is image processing from the EOS R.

Glad it got sorted out. Now enjoy!

It sure is! It was great to stay there for two weeks. Sitting on the porch with the wife, a bourbon, the EOS R with RF 24-105L or EF 28-300L on a tripod and the 80D with EF 100-400L by my side. It doesn't get any better than that!
