Aug 20, 2019 10:56 | #2433 I found a dead Robber Fly on my back porch last night, so I figgered it would be a willing subject. I put my Raynox 1.5 magnifier on my 90 mm Tamron, then moved the subject till I got focus. First pic is uncropped, second is cropped for a bit more detail on the eyes. Lighting was a SureFire 180 lumen flashlight held above the subject. I'd sure hate for one of these to bury that beak into my hand. TerryMc

It seems to have the yes and mandibles for it.... Sawfly, look at the bulb like antenna -an entomologist told me that it's a marker for a Sawfly. The eyes and mandibles confused me as well. Very interesting. Two different-looking flies but I think they are both robber flies. What is the prey in the first pic? Sony RX10 IV, Canon 7D2, Canon 90D, assorted Canon lenses
